FPM: Strategy For Venice/Bay 101

FPM logoThe L.A. Poker Classic is in the books as the WPT continues it’s California Swing in San Jose BUT the WPT is also holing a big event in Venice – two events, two lineups in just a few hours? What’s a FPM Manger to do? We have a few suggestions to hopefully help you out in what will be a challenging week ahead:

SPREAD THE WEALTH?

WPT California SwingYou will only have a few hours in between making your selections for WPT Venice and then the Bay 101 Shooting Star. For some, it may not be possible to submit that second lineup, for others, you may chose to concentrate on one event or go all out and submit lineups for both.

Strategically speaking, if you already have a few players pegged for the WPT California Swing, a few of those selections may have already seen a Market Price increase … choosing to leave those players on your team – hoping they run good at Bay 101 and then make their way to the final leg of the California Swing in Sacramento – even if you plan on submitting a lineup for Venice. There is nothing wrong with keeping a few players on the team even if they aren’t playing the event.

Spread the wealth and choosing to concentrate on your overall results and increasing player Market Prices instead of going for success in each of the individual events.

OR GO ALL OUT?

WPT VeniceOthers will be brave and chose to throw caution to the wind, selecting a specific team for each event. This means abandoning any strategy with regards to the California Swing, losing any potential additional increase to player Market Prices from the LAPC and adding fresh new blood for WPT Venice.

Once lineups lock for Venice, it’s back to America as Shooting Star squads are due only hours later. The good news is that you will have plenty of time to make a decision on your Bay 101 players.

WHO TO ADD: WPT VENICE CARNIVAL

Andrea Dato GPIOnly 37 players made it through Day 1A play at the WPT Venice Carnival on Monday. One of those players is Italian pro Andrea Dato (GPI#355).

Coming off a 5th place finish at IPT Saint Vincent, Dato is no stranger to the big stage, having final tabled WPT Venice in 2011 and the WPT Venice Grand Prix a year later. Dato also earned a 60th place finish in the Main Event at the 44th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Dato will start Day 2 play with a chip stack just under 70K, which is about 20K away from Day 1A chip leader Tigran Yazychyan (GPI#1925).

WHO TO ADD: WPT BAY 101 SHOOTING STAR

If you picked up Mukul Pahuja (GPI#85) prior to the WPT Montreal Main Event and still have him on your roster? Well, my friend, you are certainly looking like a genius! Pahuja continues to run good on the World Poker Tour, most recently finishing 8th at the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open and adding a 30th place finish at the WPT L.A. Poker Classic last week.

Pahuja’s heater has followed him to San Jose. He sits with a Top 5 chip stack following Day 1A play.
