2014 GPI PoY: Stammen Takes the Lead

A total of nine cashes so far in 2014 sees Keven Stammen take over the 2014 GPI Player of the Year race…

STUNNING STAMMDOGG

Keven Stammen GPIAfter six straight weeks at the top, Mike McDonald  (GPI#7) is no longer #1. Two cashes last week have allowed Keven Stammen (GPI#39) to take over the 2014 GPI Player of the Year race.

Stammen finished 14th at WPT Rolling Thunder to close out the WPT California Swing. Incredibly, he made his way to Cincinnati just hours later to play the 2014 Queen City Classic in his home state of Ohio.

Stammdogg would end up finishing second to Nick Guagenti (GPI#628) in the Classic, still, Stammen would take home a little over 110K USD with his two recent scores – not bad for a week’s pay!

The Queen City Classic was Stammen’s third final of the year; he final tabled the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open in February and won a 2K prelim at the L.A. Poker Classic in early March to begin his drive to the top.

With nine cashes so far this season, all in events with a minimum 1K buy-in, it doesn’t look like Stammen is in any way ready to slow down.

Here is a look at Pahuja’s results so far this season:

CALDERARO DEBUTS AT #7

James Calderaro GPIWPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open winner James Calderaro (GPI#240) makes his debut on the GPI PoY Top 25 this week. Calderaro almost added a second WPT score this season earlier this week in Florida as he finished second to Nabil Hirezi (GPI#2800) at the WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open.

Other additions to the Top 25 this week include: #9 Eugene Katchalov (GPI#21), who also made big strides inside the GPI300 this week, #14 Martin Jacobson (GPI#45), #17 Shyam Srinivasan (GPI#643), #18 Joe Kuether (GPI#23), #21 Eli Heath (GPI#228) and #24 Benjamin Zamani (GPI#211).

With the EPT Vienna Main and High Roller events concluding in the coming days, it will be interesting to see just how the EPT’s latest visit to Austria impacts the PoY standings next week.
