2014 PoY: McDonald Still #1, Kuether, Schindler Making Strides

McDonald remains atop the PoY standings but two young Americans making waves…

SCHINDLER, KUETHER GAINING GROUND

Joe Kuether GPIAlthough Canadian Mike McDonald (GPI#8) begins his second straight week atop the 2014 GPI Player of the Year leaderboard, it’s a pair of American players that grabbed our attention this week.

A 19th place finish at WSOP Circuit Palm Beach earlier this week allowed Jacob Schindler (GPI#53) to make one of the biggest moves inside the Player of the Year race this week, moving to 18th overall on the year. Schindler kicked off his 2014 season by winning the High Roller event at the 2014 PCA, outlasting Greg Merson and Vanessa Selbst for the title.

Joe Kuether (GPI#22) already has five cashes this year: 2 each at the PCA and the Aussie Millions and a cash in the Main Event at WSOP Circuit Durant, in Oklahoma. Kuether sits 13th in the GPI Player of the Year race.

Here is a look at Kuether’s results so far this season:

UPCOMING EVENTS

Liv Boeree GPIAs the days get longer, we recognize that the Spring poker season isn’t too far away! Before then, we still have several highlight poker events that could impact the PoY standings. In North America, the Deep Stack Extravaganza Main Event is about to kickoff in Las Vegas … also the WPT Fallsview Classic, which includes three highlight events that are all scheduled to sell out, could very well bring upon changes to the rankings.

In Europe, big names are set to do battle at the SkyPoker UK Poker Championships at the DTD in Nottingham … plus, with UKIPT Dublin right around the corner, some of the best Euros in the game could also continue to move on up, including Liv Boeree (GPI#143) who’s remarkable start to 2014 includes a second place finish at UKIPT Edinburgh in Scotland. Boeree currently sits 7th overall on the GPI Player of the Year leaderboard.
