Cada Wins His Way into the WSOP’s History Book

Cada Tops the List of Recent WSOP Winners

Another day of bracelet hunting action saw two of WSOP veterans square-off in a battle to add another accolade to their already gleaming roster. Event #32 proved to be the scene of one of the top final fights of the 2014 WSOP so far.

At one point it looked as though the UK’s Max Silver was going to claim his first piece of WSOP gold but as the $10,000 NLHE 6-Max event drew to a close he was only able to bag a bronze medal as well as $273,646.

Indeed, after watching a stellar line-up that included the likes of George Danzer, Erick Lindgren and JC Tran fall by the wayside, Silver found himself facing an American duo consisting of Jeremy Ausmus and Joe Cada. With the odds stacked against him the Brit put in the valiant effort but found eventually found himself being ushered towards the rail by Cada.

With only two players left an hour-long heads-up battle ensued as both players looked to add another piece of WSOP bling to their collection. Despite both players being highly adept when it comes to dealing with WSOP pressure, a final flurry of action saw Ausmus crumble.

When all the money went in Ausmus revealed a pair of jacks and quickly realised his hand was trailing the pocket queens held by Cada.

A safe board for the 2009 World Champion meant the bracelet and $670,041 went to Cada while Ausmus had to content himself with a $414,104 consolation prize.

Elsewhere in the Rio, Brett Shaffer was also able to etch his name onto the WSOP Hall of Fame after busting through another bumper $1,500 NLHE event. In the final throes of the match Shaffer managed to overcome the UK’s Peter Gould and seasoned grinder Matt Stout before besting Ronald Sullivan in a heads-up match to decide the fate of the bracelet and $418,435.
