EPT Deauville: Liv Makes Her Picks

FPM logo

The Global Poker Index introduced the Fantasy Poker Manager Facebook App earlier today and poker pros from around the world are already on board wanting in on the action!

One pro has already gone a step further, announcing her picks for EPT Deauville, the kickoff event for the Fantasy Poker Manager.

Former EPT Sanremo Champ Liv Boeree (GPI #171) took to Twitter to announce her selections – although like you, Liv has until EPT Deauville Day 2 on Tuesday to make changes to her roster … and we already know that she will have to make at least one change (more on this later in this article).

Let’s have some fun, let’s play the role of analyzer and dissect Liv’s picks

MARVIN RETTENMAIER | GPI #2 | FPM 494,610
Best EPT Deauville Result: Never Cashed

Liv’s franchise player. You can’t go wrong with Mad Marvin. Two straight years of great performances, all around the world. You will see Rettenmaier remain on Boeree’s squad all year. PLUS, Rettenmaier tweeted earlier today giving Fantasy Poker Manager fans a tip “PICK ME!

STEPHEN CHIDWICK | GPI #114 | FPM 147,220
Best EPT Deauville Result: Never Cashed

A solid addition to Liv’s team. You won’t need to break the bank with the selection plus he’s recognized by his peers as being a great player. Chidwick has tons of Top 10 finishes but is still chasing that elusive first major win on the live tournament circuit.

Max Silver FPMMAX SILVER | GPI #134 | FPM 112,640
Best EPT Deauville Result: Never Cashed

I mentioned earlier that Liv would have to make a change to her lineup. After posting her picks earlier today, Silver confirmed to Boeree that he will unfortunately not be attending EPT Deauville – still a few days to make a substitution. Adding Bruno “Kool Shen” Lopes (GPI #148) could be one solution in a one-for-one swap … but how about adding two solid players for the price of Silver? Triple Crown winner (and recent Team PokerStars signee) Jake Cody (GPI #230) and the most recent EPT Sanremo champ Ludovic Lacay (GPI# 233) would add depth and experience to Boeree’s team. All three players are expected to be present in Deauville.

LIV BOEREE | GPI #171 | FPM 79,450
Best EPT Deauville Result: Never Cashed

It will be very interesting to see if pros will pick themselves for their teams. You would assume that players would pick themselves, right? Boeree certainly did. But what about those that do not pick themselves – what will you take from it? Is the pro not picking him/herself because they’re too humble or is something else going on?

Boeree cashed in three EPT Main Events in 2012 (PCA, Campione, Sanremo) and also cashed in the Main Event at the WSOP in Las Vegas. She can certainly be counted on to pickup points.

JOSE “NACHO” BARBERO | GPI #250 | FPM 37,180
Best EPT Deauville Result: Never Cashed

Nacho won the 1K PLO side event at EPT Deauville last season so he has had some success inside Casino Barriere. Barbero also final tabled the LAPT Grand Final in Lima, Peru to finish off his 2012 campaign.

I’m not sure what to expect from Barbero in Deauville, but a reasonable price tag makes this a safe pick for Boeree.

VANESSA ROUSSO | GPI #941 | FPM 10,000Vanessa Rousso
Best EPT Deauville Result: Never Cashed

Earlier this week, I posted an article talking about how Rousso was tremendous value and almost couldn’t be overlooked at such a small price (you probably won’t be able to get her this cheap ever again, she is bound to have her market price go up in the very near future)- well, if you don’t want to listen to me, maybe you’ll listen to the former EPT Champ. Boeree makes a great pickup here, a no brainer as far as I’m concerned.

In closing, I was stunned while researching Liv’s players that none of them had ever cashed at EPT Deauville. Given the quality of players Boeree’s squad, you would think that this would not have been the case. What does this mean? Well, I guess time will tell.

Boeree has assembled a quality team that’s for sure, deciding to stick with players with a lot of experience on the live tournament circuit.

Great job, Liv – hope you enjoy playing the GPI Fantasy Poker Manager.

Scout your players now and head on over to the GPI Fantasy Poker Manager you have until Tuesday (start of Day 2) to get your EPT Deauville picks in!
