FPM Borgata Winter: Fantasy Pick5

FPM logoBack to Borgata we go! Just a few months after Anthony Zinno and Vanessa Selbst battled to the bitter end, the WPT is back in Atlantic City, more specifically, the Borgata, for the WPT Borgata Winter Open. Baby it’s cold outside (in AC), so our pros will surely try their hardest to go deep in the event to remain in the warm confines of the Borgata. Here are five players to keep an eye on before making your Fantasy selections …

NOTE: Two events will lock on Tuesday. First, EPT Deauville will lock at 6am ET/12pm CET. Once those lineups are set, then FPM Mangers will be able to make their selections for the WPT Borgata Winter Open. In order to allow a little more time for Managers to make their WPT picks, lineups will lock at 3pm ET/9pm CET – three hours after the start of Day 2 play – good luck!

GREG MERSON

Greg Merson GPI2012 WSOP World Champion Greg Merson (GPI#344) tweeted out on Sunday that he was registering late to play Day 1A … the reason? He had taken a hit in the cash games area and needed to survive Day 1A in order to get a day off and re-focus on Monday … mission accomplished as Merson ended Day 1A with 67K in chips.

Merson will need to make up some ground in order to get back into contention and the join the chip leaders, some of which have close to triple the amount of chips compared to Merson’s stack, but, that’s not something that has ever stopped the WSOP Champ before.

VANESSA SELBST

Vanessa Selbst GPIPoker fans please don’t freak out! Although Vanessa Selbst (GPI#5) isn’t currently in the field on Day 1B, she has taken to Twitter to find out when late registration closes … SO, all should be good and Selbst should be making her way to the tournament area in the not too distant future … and she leaves Day 1B later tonight holding chips, you would be crazy not to add her on your team.

Selbst, who finished second here at the WPT Borgata Poker Open just a few short months ago, has continued her strong play all the way through now. Selbst, who leads the 2014 GPI Player of the Year race to start the year, loves playing Borgata and should be considered one of the biggest threats to win this thing on Friday.

NOAH SCHWARTZ

Noah Schwartz GPIWe continue to add Champions to our list. WPT Champions Club member Noah Schwartz (GPI#15) ended Day 1A with a Top 20 stack.

Schwartz, who recently won his first WSOP bracelet at WSOP Europe in Enghien-les-Bains, France, can be a very dangerous player when he has chips early – look for him to push forward on Day 2 Tuesday where Day 1A and 1B survivors will all merge as we play down to a winner on Friday.

ARI ENGEL

Ari Engel GPIOne of the top grinders of 2013 returns to our FPM lists to start the 2014 season. Ari Engel (GPI#88) is a must-add player if he has a respectable chip stack when Day 1B comes to an end later on Monday.

Engel is as solid as they come on the live tournament circuit and should be considered a threat in any tournament he plays.

AARON MASSEY

Aaron Massey GPILike Engel, Aaron Massey (GPI#78) is also a young and successful grinder on the live tournament circuit. Most recently, Massey finished second to Edward Ochana (GPI#1229) at Heartland Poker Tour Indiana and followed that up with a cash in the Main Event at WSOP Circuit Durant in Oklahoma.

You can bet that Massey, who was selected as one of the World Poker Tour’s Ones to Watch this season, is eyeing that elusive major tournament victory that he has been seeking for the past few years.
