Matt Giannetti Wins Second WPT Title

When the World Poker Tour got its Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event underway, there were 369 entries and a prize pool just under $1.2 million. Many of the participants in that $3,500 buy-in NLHE reentry tournament were eliminated in the first day, and Day 2 thinned the field further from 143 to 36. That burst the money bubble as well.

Day 3 saw a number of players cash, such as Mike Beasley and Joseph Serock. The ultimate seventh place elimination of Ben Tarzia for $38,976 set the final table for February 12 as follows:

Seat 1: Matt Giannetti – 3,005,000
Seat 2: Lily Kiletto – 860,000
Seat 3: Darryll Fish – 2,660,000
Seat 4: Matt Salsberg – 980,000
Seat 5: Hayden Fortini – 1,620,000
Seat 6: Danny Shiff – 1,930,000

And when the final table played out, the results found Matt Giannetti picking up his second career WPT title and a solid amount of cash.

1st place: Matt Giannetti ($323,804)
2nd place: Lily Kiletto ($191,880)
3rd place: Darryll Fish ($125,921)
4th place: Danny Shiff ($86,946)
5th place: Hayden Fortini ($64,160)
6th place: Matt Salsberg ($50,968)

Daniel Negreanu Nears $100K Charity Goal

As reported yesterday, Daniel Negreanu set out to raise $100K for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He pledged to match any charitable contributions up to $50,000, as well as reward four random people who donate $2,500 or more with a dinner, poker lesson, and evening at his newly renovated Las Vegas home.

Donations nearly doubled in the past 24 hours, as many gifts rolled in for various amounts. The one that stood out from the rest was from Dan Shak for $25K, and Negreanu commented on Twitter:

@RealKidPoker: Thank you @daniel_shak for your $25,000 donation WOW! You just blew me away. You are a credit to our community in every way!

At post time, donations continued and the total amount raised exceeded $85K. Donations can be made here.
