GPI First Look: WPT World Championship

After 11 years at Bellagio in Las Vegas, the WPT will seek for its next World Champion in Atlantic City starting later today…

TO BORGATA WE GO

Marvin Rettenmaier GPIThis is it! The final event on the WPT”s Season XII schedule is here. Gone are the days at Bellagio, the WPT World Championship, sponsored by partypoker, will be decided at Borgata in Atlantic City this year. The buy-in has also moved, coming down to 15K after years of 25K buy-ins in Las Vegas.

Numbers had been dwindling at Bellagio but the move to Atlantic City certainly looks to have been the right one as plenty of big-name pros are either already here playing prelim Borgata Spring Open prelim events, or, are on their way to Borgata as we speak. That 5M USD guarantee may just be reason enough to make your way to Atlantic City!

This is the case for Season X WPT World Champion, and former GPI World #1 Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#4) who saw his German counterpart, Ole Schemion, once again win big, further separating himself from Mad Marvin atop the GPI National Germany race. A repeat performance this time in Atlantic City is exactly what Rettenmaier will be hoping for…

CHARANIA, SMITH, JAFFEE HIGHLIGHT QUALIFIERS

Mohsin Charania GPIA total of 20 players have already punched their ticket to the WPT World Championship. Those players are the 20 who won on the World Poker Tour this season.

The list includes nine members of the GPI300, led by WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic winner Dan Smith (GPI#9), bwin WPT Grand Prix de Paris champ Mohsin Charania (GPI#38) and Jared Jaffee (GPI#74), who won the WPT Jacksonville bestbet Fall Poker Scramble late in 2013.

Of course, those players aren’t forced to play in the tournament, although skipping out on a 15K buy-in sounds crazy … but, with the EPT Grand Final Festival kicking off in Monte Carlo this week, some may chose to skip Borgata.
