GPI National Mexico | Top 10

Mexico FlagOn Monday, Mexico celebrated its independence from Spain as celebrations for “Grito de Dolores” were held throughout Mexico and in many other cities around America.

We take a look at the GPI National Top 10 for the country of Mexico:

#10 | Moises Mussali Birch

Earned two impressive scores at the 2013 PCA – both in 5K buy-in events. A second and third place finish earned him a little over 80K USD for his efforts.

#9 | Luis Velador

One of the most decorated Mexican pros in history, Velador is the proud owner of two World Series of Poker bracelets. Velador cashed four times at the year’s Series, including a 11th place finish in Event 13 – Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, which earned him 17K USD. Velador has collected over 1.4M USD in winnings in his illustrious poker career.

#8 | Christian De Leon Angeles

Team PokerStars Pro De Leon won the Latin American Poker Tour Grand Finale back in Season III. He has since gone on to collect several other scores on the LAPT, including a fourth place finish at the LAPT Colombia National Poker Championship this past June.

#7 | Carlos Mora Alvarez

Coming off a Top 10 finish at a side event at EPT Barcelona, Carlos has certainly enjoyed his time in Spain … at last year’s EPT Barcelona event, he cashed in the Main Event and finished fifth in the High Roller event to earn the biggest cash of his career on the live tournament circuit.

#6 | Pedro Fernandez

Amongst the four cashes Fernandez collected at the World Series of Poker this summer in Las Vegas was the best cash-out of his career. Fernandez finished 74th in the WSOP Main Event, collecting over 83K USD for his efforts in the Main Event marathon.

#5 | Gerardo Godinez

The most recent score for Godinez last month where he finished 18th at LAPT Peru. Godinez also finished 18th at the EPT Grand Final in Madrid back in 2011.

#4 | Santiago Nadal

Nadal has been busy on the live tournament circuit in 2013. His eight cashes so far this season have come in London, Las Vegas, Florida and Barcelona.

Nadal currently leads the GPI Player of the Year National Mexico race.

Angel Guillen GPI#3 | Angel Guillen

Coming off a couple of scores at EPT Barcelona, Guillen, a former member of the GPI300, is one of Mexico’s brightest stars on the felt.

In 2009, Guillen won a World Series of Poker bracelet in the 2K NLH event … he also was runner-up in a $2,500 that same year earning just under 850K USD that summer.

JC Alvarado GPI#2 | Juan Carlos Alvarado

As successful live as he is online, Alvarado clinched a second place finish in WCOOP (PokerStars’ World Cup of Online Poker) Event #19 earlier this week earning him over 100K USD.

JC’s best score on the live tournament circuit came last year – at EPT Barcelona – where he finished second to Dan Smith in the 50K Super High Roller event which earned him a whopping €788,674.

#1 | Jose Manuel Nadal

The closest player to the GPI300, Jose Manuel Nadal is coming off a side event victory at LAPT Peru where he took home over 35K USD.
