GPI PoY March Recap: Paul “The Main Event” Volpe Takes the Lead

volpeAt the beginning of March the GPI Player of the Year frontrunners were Dan Shak (PoY#1), Micah Raskin (PoY#2), and Mike Watson (PoY#3). Watson passed both Shak and Raskin when he finished runner-up in both the £2,000 NLHE event and the £5,000 NLHE Six-Handed event at the EPT/UKIPT- London. He did not reach PoY#1, however, because Paul Volpe was also at the London festival and would earn enough points to capture the lead. Volpe made the final table of the £10,000 NLHE High Roller, finishing 4th and earning 111 points. That was on the heels of a 3rd place finish in the Bay 101 Shooting Stars $7,500 NLHE Main Event which earned him 140 points.

Adding themselves to the mix at the top in the same week were Christian Harder (PoY#4) and Ana Marquez(PoY#5). Harder also cashed in the Bay 101 Shooting Stars $7,500 NLHE Main Event earning 102 points. He additionally cashed in the WSOP Circuit – Atlantic City $1,675 NLHE Main Event for an additional 30 points. Like Watson, Marquez cashed twice at the EPT/UKIPT festival for a combined 70 points. She finishing 15th in both the £1,000 NLHE and £2,000 NLHE events.

Raskin did not have any new cashes in the month of March and has therefore fallen to PoY#9. The remainder of the GPI PoY frontrunners includeScott Seiver (PoY#6), Yury Gulyy (PoY#7), Steven Silverman (PoY#8), and Stephen Bokor (PoY#10).

Coming Up

The WPT Venice Grand Prix has concluded and winner Rocco Palumbo will pick the most points for the event. Palumbo will likely double his current PoY score when the results are in boosting him up in the Standings
