GPI Tournament Report: November Nine, WPTSA, WSOPC, GUKPT + More

We take you to Las Vegas, Johannesburg, British Columbia, the UK, France, St. Louis and Wisconsin in this week’s GPI Tournament Recap:

WSOP NOVEMBER NINE

Ryan Riess GPICongratulations to Ryan Riess (GPI#236) who won the WSOP Main Event last week defeating fellow American Jay Farber (GPI#633) heads-up.

The win allowed Riess to make a return to the GPI300.

Coming into November Nine play, chip leader JC Tran (GPI#187) was certainly favoured to win the big event. Unfortunately for Tran, things didn’t go as planned and he would be eliminated in fifth position.

WPT EMPERORS PALACE CLASSIC

Tom Koral GPIUnranked Daniel Brits won the WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic, defeating fellow South African Eugene du Plessis (GPI#2475) heads-up. Both Brits and du Plessis entered final table play with big chip stacks.

Dominik Nitsche (GPI#54), who was attempting to become the first player in World Poker Tour history twice (in his case attempting to go back-to-back) would end up finishing in fourth position.

Other notables include: Tom Koral (GPI#571) (pictured, right) – coming off a victory at the DeepStacks Poker Tour Oregon State Championship, Jason Strauss (GPI#3451) – who final tabled this event last season and 2012 WSOP Main Event 10th place finisher Gaëlle Baumann (GPI#1005).

WSOP CIRCUIT RIVER ROCK

Joe Kuether GPIAnother non-ranked poker player took down a title this week as Canadian Lincoln Milne won the WSOP Circuit River Rock Main Event in his native land. Milne bested a 865-player field as the WSOP Circuit made its second successful visit to British Columbia.

GPI1000 member Jeff Blenkarn (GPI#957) final tabled the event.

Notables players who cashed in the Main Event included: GPI300 member Joe Kuether (GPI#57) (pictured, right), former WPT Borgata Poker Open final table participant Tyler Patterson (GPI#507) and Canadian grinder Ryan Smith (GPI#2778). Smith earned a +100K Venetian DSE win in the summer of 2012.

GUKPT BLACKPOOL

GUKPT LogoVeteran UK pro Richard Trigg (GPI#1030) came out victorious at the latest leg of the GUKPT in Blackpool. Adam Forsyth (GPI#3018) was amongst the final table participants.

Simon Deadman (GPI#479) was amongst the notables who cashed in the event. Deadman started the 2013 poker season by winning WPT National Dublin in Ireland.

WPT NATIONAL GRUISSAN

Ilan Boujenah GPIFormer GPI300 member Ilan Boujenah (GPI#526) wins WPT National Series Gruissan defeating current GPI300 member Paul Tedeschi (GPI#235) heads-up.

Past EPT Barcelona final table participant Isabel Baltazar (GPI#1647) finished third in the event. WPT National Cannes runner-up Erwann Pecheux (GPI#218) made the final table.

HPT MISSOURI

Ari Engel GPIThe incredible 2013 season continues for Ari Engel (GPI#222) who won his fourth tournament of the year with his victory at the Heartland Poker Tour Missouri tour stop in St. Louis. Engel earns over 140K for the big win pushing his season total earnings to over 400K USD for the first time of his career.

Engel overcame the 420-player field that included some top US pros including Jacob Bazeley (GPI#255). Bazeley finished fourth in the Main Event.

MSPT HO-CHUNK

MSPT LogoYoung poker pro Joshua Reichard (GPI#3722) won the Mid-States Poker Tour Main Event in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

PokerNews Senior Editor Chad Holloway (GPI#21877) finished fourth in the event. Holloway, you’ll remember, earned a WSOP bracelet this summer in Las Vegas when he won the $500 Casino Employees Event to kickoff the summer at the Rio.
