GPI Tournament Report: WSOPC, Macau Cup, Big Stax, HPT, MSPT + More

We take you to Connecticut, Macau, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Indiana, San Jose, Iowa and Alberta in this week’s GPI Tournament Recap:

WSOPC FOXWOODS

Aaron Massey GPIThe Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut played host to the first WSOP Circuit event of the new season. Jason Strasser won the Main Event and qualifies for the WSOP Circuit National Championship next May in New Orleans.

Bryan Leskowitz, Leo Wolpert and Aaron Massey all collected Top 30 finishes in the Main. Two-time WSOPC Ring winner Massey (pictured, right) also made it to heads-up play in NLH Ring Event #9 eventually losing out to fellow GPI300 member Ari Engel (GPI#274), who won his sixth WSOP Circuit ring with the victory.

MACAU POKER CUP

Tom Alner GPIUK poker pro Tom Alner (GPI#153) won the Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon Main Event. Alner (pictured, right) survived a 645-player field to pickup the $823,000 HKD top prize.

Chenxiang Miao won the High Roller event. Kenneth Wong, who was the runner-up at the 2012 Aussie Millions, finished third in the HR event.

Celina Lin and Raymond Wu won prelim events. Lin also earned a second place finish in another prelim event.

ARIZONA STATE POKER CHAMPIONSHIP

Joe Kuether GPIThe Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale played host the 9th Annual Arizona State Poker Championship last week and Joe Kuether (GPI#70) was the big winner. The event, which featured a prize pool of over 1.2M USD, 246K of which Kuether (pictured, right) took home. There has been plenty of buzz around the Wisconsin pro on the live tournament circuit, so much so that Kuether was featured in our WSOP primer last May.

Arizona native Daniel Hirleman (GPI#1123) finished third in the event. Hirleman earned three cashes at the WSOP this summer.

BIG STAX POKER SERIES III

Lee Childs GPIAdam Levitan (GPI#5164) has won the Big Stax Poker Series III Main Event at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Levitan cashed in the WSOP Main Event this summer exiting the tournament in 442nd position.

Former WSOP Main Event finalist Lee Childs (pictured, right), Joseph Wertz and Lonnie Heimowitz are a few of the notable players who cashed in the event.

HEARTLAND POKER TOUR INDIANA

Stan Jablonski GPIFormer WSOP Circuit Hammond Main Event Ring Winner Robert Chow (GPI#18642) is back in the winner’s circle. Chow, who won his WSOPC event back in 2011, won the Heartland Poker Tour’s latest Main Event at the Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Indiana.

US circuit veteran Stan Jablonksi (GPI#393) finished in 32nd position, earning his eighth career cash on the Heartland Poker Tour.

BAY 101 OPEN

Bay 101 Open GPIKfir Nahum (GPI#7381) has won the Main Event at the Bay 101 Open, earning his entry into the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event next February to go along with the cool $100,000 USD top prize! Over 500 players entered the $1,080 USD buy-in Main Event.

MID-STATES POKER TOUR GRAND FALLS

MSPT Logo GPISouth Dakota native Josh Smith won the Mid-States Poker Tour Grand Falls event over the weekend. The event was held at the Grand Falls Casino Hotel in Larchwood, Iowa.

Everett Carlton (GPI#428) made it to his fourth MSPT Final Table and second in a row. Carlton finished sixth in the Tama event just a few weeks ago.

SUMMER SUPER STACK SERIES

Deerfoot Logo GPIThe Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary, Alberta, Canada hosted the Summer Super Stack Series with the Main Event being played out this past weekend. Quentin Siffledeen (GPI#5241) would end up winning the Main, earning the biggest payout of his poker career.

Pawan Braich, who finished second in the event, earned six total cashes at the latest Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza.
