GPI Year in Review: PCA, Aussie Millions Kickoff January

Vanessa Selbst, Scott Seiver, Rupert Elder, Adrian Mateos Diaz and Matt Salsberg grabbed the headlines in January …

KICKOFF IN THE BAHAMAS…

Scott Seiver GPIAs has now become tradition, the 2013 poker season kicked off in the beautiful Bahamas as the EPT hosted the poker world at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure at the Atlantis Resort. The action would certainly not disappoint. Scott Seiver came rushing out of the gates with the big 2M USD victory in the 100K USD buy-in Super High Roller event to earn the 2nd seven-figure score of his career.

Bulgarian pro Dimitar Danchev would survive the charge of the Canadians in the Main Event, outlasting, amongst others, WPT Montreal Champion Jonathan Roy on way to the first major title of his poker career.

Vanessa Selbst would wrap-up the PCA with a win in the 25K USD High Roller event, earning over 1.4M USD for the victory. The All-Star final table included Michael Watson, Ole Schemion, Shaun Deeb and Bryn Kenney.

…AND ONTO THE AUSSIE MILLIONS

Rupert Elder GPILater in the month, the Aussie Millions Poker Championship would begin at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. The first event presented was the 1K event as the UK’s Rupert Elder picked up the big 25oK AUD first prize, defeating a 1,338-player field on way to the (at the time) second title of his career on the live tournament circuit.

Mervin Chan would earn the Main Event title as 628 other players tried their best to take it away from Chan. Patrik Antonius made his presence felt in Australia. The high-stakes superstar collected a third place finish in the Main … American Andrew Robl – also no stranger to the world of high-stakes poker – would earn 1M AUD in the 100K Challenge, defeating 21 other runners.

More would come from the Aussie Millions in February.
