GPI300: Kid Poker finally falls + former World #2 O’Dwyer drops from 300

Negreanu falls inside Top 10 while former a Top 10 player drops from the 300 …

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Dan Smith GPIMake it 9 weeks in a row for Dan Smith (GPI#1, -) atop the GPI World Poker Rankings, matching the career-high 9-week streak at the top he enjoyed between October and December of 2012. Smith is one of very few players ranked inside the Top 10 to have added points this week, despite being inactive.

The Top 10 player to lose the biggest amount of points this week is none other than GPI Poker Player of the Decade Daniel Negreanu (GPI#8, -5). We had anticipated a drop for Negreanu since the start of 2014, but, Kid Poker refused to give in and continued to collect valuable point on the live tournament circuit. His #8 ranking is the lowest he’s been ranked since June, when he started the WSOP holding the final spot inside the Top 10. Since the start of the 2013 World Series of Poker, Negreanu has been a member of the Top 10 in 61 of 67 weeks.

Negreanu’s decline is good news for others, obviously, including former World #1 Jason Mercier (GPI#3, +1), who moves into the Top 3 for the first time since September 25, 2013, almost 13 months ago.

For the first time in over two months, Jacob Schindler (GPI#10, +2) makes a return to the Top 10, taking Stephen Chidwick’s (GPI#11, -1) spot in the standings.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

Craig McCorkell (GPI#93 CB, +153) found a great way to stop the downward spiral. McCorkell, who had been trending down for weeks, cashed twice at the EPT London Festival, including a 3rd place finish in the High Roller event, allowing him to move him to a career best placement inside the Top 100.

On the brink of the GPI300, Spanish star Sergio Aido (GPI#184, +106) is back in the safe zone this week. Just like McCorkell, Aido cashed twice in London, earning him his best ranking since July.

DOWN THE LADDER

2012 World Series of Poker November Niner Jeremy Ausmus (GPI#114, -59) is one of the most notable players to slip up inside the 300 this week. Ausmus’ performances at WSOP Europe in Enghien-les-Bains, France last year entered a third aging stage this week causing him to move out of the Top 100 for the first time since February of 2013.

Tamer Kamel (GPI#276, -87), Justin Young (GPI#199, -63) and Todd Terry (GPI#215, -52) are three other notables who move down the charts this week.

IN-N-OUT

A total of 23 players are in and out of the GPI300 this week! Out of the 23 coming in are eight – that’s right EIGHT – former EPT Champions as Jake Cody, Nicolas Chouity, Tom Middleton, Frederik Jensen, Sebastian Pauli, Zimnan Ziyard, Roberto Romanello and Liv Boeree all make a return to the GPI300 this week.

The biggest name to leave the GPI300 this week has to be Stephen O’Dwyer, who drops out of the elite group for the very first time of his poker career. O’Dwyer, who was ranked as high at #2 in the World back in June 0f 2012, has cashed in only 13 events – none of them victories – since winning the EPT Grand Final in the spring of 2013.

ON THE BUBBLE

High stakes star Fabian Quoss (GPI#301) sits on the bubble this week. Quoss has been in and out of the Top 300 for several weeks now and finds himself right on the bubble.
