It’s a return to #1 for the GPI’s most acclaimed player …
VIEW FROM THE TOP
It’s a return to the top for the most successful player in the history of the GPI, Jason Mercier (GPI#1, +1), who returns to #1 on the GPI World Poker Rankings on the heels of a fruitful summer at the World Series of Poker, where he added a third WSOP gold bracelet in the 5K No-Limit Hold’em Six Max event.
Mercier, who has spent all but four weeks ranked inside the GPI Top 10 so far in 2015, returns to #1 in the World Rankings for the first time since September 4, 2013. He has held the #1 spot on the GPI for more weeks than any other player. He begins his 54th week at the top … his closest competition, German phenom Ole Schemion, has spent a combined total of 41 weeks at #1.
In danger of dropping out of the Top 10 for the first time since February, Byron Kaverman (GPI#7, +3) moved up three spots thanks to his 3rd place finish in the Bellagio Cup XI Main Event. Like Mercier, Kaverman picked up a WSOP gold bracelet this summer. His first bracelet victory came in NLH Six Handed Championship, defeating Doug Polk heads-up.
Back to the Bellagio Cup where American upstart Nicholas Petrangelo (GPI#12 CB, +13) has continued his meteoric rise within the GPI300 this season with a 4th place finish at Bellagio. Petrangelo started 2015 ranked #978 in the World.
