GPI300: Negreanu Begins at #1, German Duo Moves Up

Daniel Negreanu begins 2014 on top while Schemion, Rettenmaier move inch their way closer to Kid Poker…

Daniel Negreanu GPIMake it 10 consecutive weeks atop the GPI300 for Daniel Negreanu (GPI#1, -) as he begins 2014 as the man to beat.

While Negreanu maintains his lead at the top, there was some movement amongst the German trio following Negreanu as Ole Schemion (GPI#2, +1) and Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#3, +1) move up a spot. Their move up meant that their fellow countryman, Philipp Gruissem (GPI#4, -2) would fall to the bottom of the German 3 ranking, moving to #4 in the World.

Shannon Shorr GPIShannon Shorr (GPI#6, +1), Michael Watson (GPI#7, +2) and Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#9, +1) all move up this week.

Two weeks after falling out of the Top 10, Ravi Raghavan (GPI#10, +1) is back in this week … the lone player to drop out is David Peters (GPI#12, -6) drops out this week. Peters had spent nine straight weeks inside the Top 10.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

Phil Laak GPIRecent WPT bestbet Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble final table participant Corrie Wunstel (GPI#245, +45) enjoyed the biggest increase this week, followed closely by poker superstar Phil Laak (GPI#220, +43).

Mukul Pahuja, Dermot Blain and Jack Salter also move up the charts this week.

DOWN THE LADDER

David Bakes Baker GPIThe holiday season has not been kind to David “Bakes” Baker (GPI#266, -134) who takes a huge fall in the standings for the second week in a row. Baker, who was ranked 76th just fourteen short days ago, falls to 266, only a few spots away from falling outside the GPI300.

WSOP standout Matthew Ashton and recent GPI Player of the Decade selection Barry Greenstein are amongst the other players who took the biggest tumble this week.

IN-N-OUT

Rob Salaburu GPIFormer November Niner Rob Salaburu (GPI#285, +19), Vinny Pahuja (GPI#296, +22) and the UK duo of Simon Deadman (GPI#286, +58) and Jake Cody (GPI#298, +17) are back in the mix this week, all ranking inside the GPI300.

It’s not all good news, however, as a total of 11 eleven players found themselves on the outside looking in this week as Michel Abecassis (GPI301, -21), Vojtech Ruzicka (GPI#306, -8), Mike Sexton (GPI#348, -60) and Matthias De Meulder (GPI#410, -104) all drop out of the GPI300 this time around.
