GPI300: Schemion and Smith swap, Jacobson returns to Top 10

The battle between Schemion and Smith continues while a November Niner returns to the GPI Top 10…

VIEW FROM THE TOP

The race that was too close to call sees Ole Schemion (GPI#1, +1) takeover from Dan Smith (GPI#2, -1) at the top of the Global Poker Index, although they remain extremely close. Schemion will arrive in Barcelona holding 90 point lead on Smith.

Sweden’s top pro Martin Jacobson (GPI#10, +6) makes a return to the GPI Top 10. Jacobson, who will return to Las Vegas in November to fight for the WSOP Main Event crown, re-enters the Top 10 for the first time in well over two years. He was last a member of the Top 10 on April 30, 2012.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

71-year-old Pierre Neuville (GPI#186, +64) continues to stand the test of time. Neuville, who followed a tremendous performance at the 45th World Series of Poker with a final table finish at WPT National Brussels, reaches his highest ranking since August 8, 2013, one year ago. Neuville has already qualified for EPT Barcelona so we will be seeing the Belgian in Spain next week!

A Main Event victory at the Live Summer Series of Poker at the Maryland Live! Casino sees former GPI World Top 20 Christian Harder (GPI#113, +49) make a push this week.

DOWN THE LADDER

Canadian Yann Dion (GPI#206, -105) takes the biggest plunge this week, falling over 100 spots in the World Rankings to a season-low #206. Dion was unfortunately shut out this summer at the World Series of Poker and hasn’t scored on the circuit since last April, when he final tabled a €5,000 Turbo event at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

After falling outside the Top 10 for the first time in over 2 years earlier this summer, former GPI World #1 Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#57, -30) will need a big score soon in order to stop the bleeding. With a busy poker schedule on the horizon, it will certainly be interesting to see where Rettenmaier heads to next in order to right the ship.

IN-N-OUT

A trio of former European Poker Tour Main Event Champions are back amongst the Top 300 players in the world this week. Former EPT Copenhagen Champ Michael Tureniec (GPI#273) joins 2010 EPT Deauville winner Jake Cody (GPI#297) and reigning EPT London title holder Robin Ylitalo (GPI#300) inside the 300 this week.

Michael Mizrachi (GPI#303) drops out of the Top 300 for only the second week ever since the inception of the Global Poker Index World Poker Rankings in June of 2011. The Grinder, a former GPI World Top 1o ranked player, has played a limited schedule in the past little while, possibly explaining his drop in the rankings.

ON THE BUBBLE

Despite a second place finish at the Wynn Summer Classic in mid-July, Joey Weissman (GPI#301) has yet to be able to re-enter the Top 300 … although he couldn’t be any closer! Weissman, who sits on the bubble this week, will attempt to return to the GPI300 for the first time since May in the coming weeks.
