GPI300: Schemion Passes Negreanu, Selbst Continues Move Up

It’s just the second week of 2014 and we have a new leader atop the GPI300 standings…

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Ole Schemion GPIAs predicted earlier this week, after 10 weeks atop the GPI300 Daniel Negreanu (GPI#2, -1) must give way to Ole Schemion (GPI#1, +1) who begins his second reign as the #1 poker player in the world. Schemion, who was the last player to stand at #1 before Negreanu’s takeover, spent one lone week at the top of the charts in mid-October.

Philipp Gruissem (GPI#3, +1) and Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#4, -1) also switched positions this week inside the Top 10.

Vanessa Selbst GPIVanessa Selbst (GPI#5, +3) continues her rise inside the Top 10 this week. Selbst, who had moved over 20 spots to #7 right before the Holiday period, moves up to #5 overall this week, following her 3rd place finish in the PCA Super High Roller event.

Three players make their return to the Top 10 this week: Stephen O’Dwyer (GPI#8, +5), Paul Volpe (GPI#9, +5) and GPI Player of the Decade #2 Erik Seidel (GPI#10, +1)  … that means we have to say goodbye to: Ravi Raghavan (GPI#11, -1), Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#12, -3) and Michael Watson (GPI#19, -12), who takes a huge tumble this week.

Anthony Gregg GPIJust like Schemion and Selbst, the PCA Super High Roller also allowed One Drop High Roller Champion Anthony Gregg (GPI#184, +92) to make the biggest move inside the GPI300 this week. Gregg, who was hovering around the Tommy Vedes Danger Zone just a short week ago, now gets to enjoy a little breathing room, moving up inside the Top 100.

Other PCA Super High Roller players who cashed and moved up this week include winner Fabian Quoss, Antonio Esfandiari and Matt Glantz.

DOWN THE LADDER

David ODB Baker For the third consecutive week, David Baker takes a tumble in the standings … fortunately for Bakes, it’s the ODB David “ODB” Baker (GPI#217, -78) who falls victim this week, losing over 75 spots this week.

WSOP November Niner JC Tran, recent PocketFives 2013 Yearly PLB winner Calvin Anderson and Manig Loeser join Baker as some of the top players who lost traction within the 300 this week.

IN-N-OUT

John Juanda GPIWhat an amazing return to the GPI300 by GPI Player of the Decade #5 John Juanda (GPI#159, +239). Juanda, who’s WPT South Korea High Roller victory took effect in this week’s rankings, returns to the 300 for the first time since October 2013 … Juanda last spent time in the GPI Top 10 in September of 2011.

Vojtech Ruzicka, Matt Berkey and Cliff Josephy are three players who make a return to the GPI300 this week … we welcome Martin Kozlov, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman and Ivan Tikhov to the 300 this week.

Ramzi Jelassi GPI2012 EPT Prague Champ Ramzi Jelassi (GPI#317, -46) takes a tumble this week, moving outside the GPI300 for the first time since his big win in Prague.

Jelassi is joined by 2013 WSOP Main Event Champion Ryan Riess (GPI#329, -106). Riess, who failed to cash in the PCA Super High Roller tournament, his first event since becoming World Champion in November. Former WSOP World Champion – and 2013 November Nine bubble boy – Carlos Mortensen (GPI#356, -116) also finds himself on the outside, looking in this week.
