GPI300: Schemion still on top, Negreanu returns to #2

Dan Smith moves back one as Daniel Negreanu returns to #2 in the World Rankings …

Ole Schemion GPIAfter being involved in a tight race with Dan Smith (GPI#3, -1), Ole Schemion (GPI#1, -), ranked #1 on the GPI World Poker Rankings for the second consecutive week, now has to deal with another former World #1, Daniel Negreanu (GPI#2, +1), who moves up this week … 90 total points separates the Top 3.

The American foursome consisting of Scott Seiver (GPI#4, -), Byron Kaverman (GPI#5, -), Jason Mercier (GPI#6, -) and Paul Volpe (GPI#7, -)

One week after dropping from the Top 10, Jacob Schindler (GPI#9, +2) returns this week, matching a career-best #9. Schindler takes the spot of Sweden’s Martin Jacobson (GPI#13, -3), who took Schindler’s spot in the rankings after returning to the Top 10 for the first time in over two years last week.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

David Diaz GPIA runner-up finish in the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at the Palm Beach Kennel Club in Florida helped David Diaz (GPI#213, +54) earn his highest GPI ranking in five months. Diaz, who had dropped out in the GPI300 during the WSOP, made a return to the elite group last month.

Justin Zaki (GPI#140, +21) and Zohair Karim (GPI#157, +17) also moved up in the standings thanks to their performance at WSOP Circuit Palm Beach.

UK pro Steve Watts (GPI#178, +30) is the lone non-American in this week’s Top 10 movers.

DOWN THE LADDER

Phil Ivey GPIPoker superstar Phil Ivey (GPI#287, -42), who returned to the GPI300 last week, loses ground for the second consecutive week. Ivey has already committed to playing at EPT Barcelona and at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Florida in the coming weeks, so a return to form could be in order.

Mike McDonald (GPI#50, -37), a consistent World Top 10 challenger, drops to his lowest ranking of the 2014 poker season, moving back to #50 in the World. McDonald is also expected to be in Barcelona and should be playing a full schedule.

Jeff Lisandro (GPI#284, -35), Yevgeniy Timoshenko (GPI#169, -29), David “ODB” Baker (GPI#245, 29) and Shannon Shorr (GPI#78, -26) are other big name pros who take a step back this week.

Chance Kornuth GPIChance Kornuth (GPI#192) has certainly enjoyed his time on the live tournament circuit post-WSOP. After a big win at the Bellagio Cup in July, Kornuth final tabled the Main Event at the Florida State Poker Championships to reach a career-best #192 on the GPI World Poker Rankings this week.

Online poker star Doug Polk (GPI#253) enters the GPI300 for the very first time of his career this week.

Defending EPT Vienna Champion Oleksii Khoroshenin (GPI#302) falls from the 300 for the first time in five months … however, Khoroshenin final tabled the Live Events International Cyprus Main Event last night and could be back into the elite group as early as next week – stay tuned!

ON THE BUBBLE

Reigning and defending EPT London winner Robin Ylitalo (GPI#301) is our bubble player this week. The 27-year-old Swede will hope to get things back on track starting later this week at the EPT Barcelona Festival.
