GPI300: Schemion streaking; pair of former #1s on Top 10 bubble

Schemion’s career best plus a pair of former #1 beasts sit on the side…

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Ole Schemion GPIOle Schemion (GPI#1, =) begins his ninth straight week ranked at the top of the GPI World Poker Rankings. Another week on top sees Schemion’s 9-week streak become the best streak of his career. Since first moving to #1 in October 2013, Schemion has spent 28 other weeks at the top.

Just like the #1 rank, the next eight spots remain unchanged in this week’s standings.

The only change within the Top 10 this week comes at the very last position where former World #3 Byron Kaverman (GPI#10, +1) makes a return to the lead group for the first time in 2015. A pair of final four finishes in High Roller events at the ARIA in Las Vegas at the end of January helped Kaverman make the move up.

Former World #1 Dan Smith (GPI#11, -1) drops from the Top 10 this week. The last time Smith was ranked outside the Top 10? We were right in the middle of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas! That’s right, Smith was last ranked outside the Top 10 in June. He is the only player to drop out this week.

Joining Smith on the cusp of the lead group is another former #1, Daniel Negreanu (GPI#12, =). Kid Poker has two scores so far this season, each coming at the PCA in the Bahamas.

Mark Dube‘s (GPI#118 CB, +83) meteoric rise of inside the rankings continues this week as he reaches a career-best #118 on the GPI. After collecting over 25 cashes in 2014, Dube has already collected three so far this season, including his recent runner-up finish at the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open in Florida, where he earned a career-high 421.80 points for his efforts.

Another player who scored points at the WPT Lucky Hearts, Jason Koon (GPI#98, +38) also moves up this week, cracking the Top 100 for the first time this season.

DOWN THE LADDER

Sam Trickett (GPI#178, -59) takes a tumble this week, falling to his lowest ranking in five months. Trickett, who will represent the UK at the upcoming Global Poker Masters event in Malta, has yet to score points so far in 2015.

Former WSOP November Niner Martin Straszko (GPI#287, -35) is another player to fall in this week’s rankings. Currently ranked #287, Staszko runs the risk of dropping out of the 300 for the first time in 2015.
