GPI300: Schemion Surging, Schindler Makes Top 10 Debut

The battle between Smith and Schemion is heating up while Jacob Schindler joins poker’s elite for the very first time…

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Although Dan Smith (GPI#1, -) retains the top spot on the GPI World Poker Rankings, a former #1 is hot on his heels. Ole Schemion (GPI#2, -) remains in second position but with his points from the Aria 100K Super High Roller event hitting the system this past week, trails Smith by less than ONE point. That’s right, 0.85 is all that separates the Top 2 players in the GPI World Rankings.

Paul Volpe (GPI#5, +2) and Alex Bilokur (GPI#7, -2) pull a switcheroo and swap positions inside the Top 10. Meanwhile, congratulations go out to Jacob Schindler (GPI#9, +19) who joins the Top 10 for the very first time of his poker career. Schindler has collected at least 300 GPI Points in the last four events that he has cashed in.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

A strong showing in the Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza $5,000 Event allowed Ognjen Sekularac (GPI#145, +75) to gain a few spots in the rankings since falling out of the Top 100 during the World Series of Poker. Sekularac finished 20th in the event.

Others to move up the ranks this week include Justin Young (GPI#152, +72), Kevin MacPhee (GPI#55, +23) and Mike Leah (GPI#105, +22).

DOWN THE LADDER

French pro Philippe Ktorza (GPI#249, -39) takes the biggest drop this week. The former WPT World Championship runner-up was shutout at the World Series of Poker. His last score was in April, where he final tabled the France Poker Series High Roller event at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

Other notables to take a tumble this week include WPT Champions Club member Giacomo Fundaro (GPI#155, -25), EPT Champion Liv Boeree (GPI#263, -23), Nicolau Villa-Lobos (GPI#244, -18) and Kimmo Kurko (GPI#231, -16).

Former WPT Champion Benjamin Hamnett (GPI#265, +139) roars back into the 300 this week. He is joined by, amongst others, Amanda Musumeci (GPI#297, +13) and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Max Pescatori (GPI#300, +23).

On the flip side, those who drop out of the GPI300 this week include Christopher De Maci (GPI#302, -3) and Marko Neumann (GPI#304, -4).

ON THE BUBBLE

A deep run in the WSOP Main Event wasn’t enough to keep UK pro Craig McCorkell (GPI#301, -3) in the Top 300 this week. His Main Event score did earn him the push he needed to return to the 300 last week, but this week’s it’s bubble time for McCorkell!
