How To Speculate in Fantasy Poker Manager Thanks to the GPI

FPM logoOne thing that is hard to deal with in the Fantasy Poker Manager, is the 5% fee that you have to pay when selling a player. But let’s face it, that’s what makes the game interesting! Of course, the game will improve, but for now, from one event in Europe to one in the US the following week, your roster might not be adapted from one live tourney to an other. So you find yourself selling most of your players and losing a important chunk of -virtual- money due to the fees.

Well, thanks to the Global Poker Index rankings, you might be finding a whole new dimension in your fantasy game.

When Are The Rankings Updated?

The rankings are updated every Thursday at 5am CET.  So when a player wins a tourney on a Sunday, it is most likely that he will see his points credited the following Thursday, and therefore -depending on the results- see his position in the rankings go up.

You can find some interesting data in the upper left corner of the GPI website as you can see in the image below, such as the next GPI update.

Should I Make My Team From One Event To Another?

So in the event of a live tourney finishing at the beginning of the week in the US (let’s take the example of the WPT Lucky Hearts that just finished last night) and an other event for which you have to make your team let’s say during the following weekend (for instance, the WPT National Brussels starting tomorrow) taking place in Europe.

You would think it is smart to sell that Matt Giannetti of yours who just won some big bucks in Florida, to replace him with the oldest GPI300 member Pierre Neuville, who will certainly play in Belgium, his homeland. Well maybe it isn’t!…

How To Speculate Thanks To The GPI?

You already know that some players are gonna go up the rankings, because they won an event or made some big money by reaching a final table in a big tourney. So you know that on Thursday morning, since their fantasy poker value is 80% linked to their GPI rank, their price is surely gonna go up. Why not take this opportunity to buy some players in order to give a boost to your wallet before making your team for the next event? After all you have plenty of time!

Let’s take a couple of examples:

The EPT Deauville just finished last Sunday, and we saw great performances from two Lebanese players. Indeed both  Jeffrey Hakim (GPI#441) and Walid Bou Habib (GPI#501)  reached the final table to finish respectively 8th and runner up. Those two players are currently sold at a price of 10,000 in the Fantasy Poker Manager, one of the lowest value. For sure thanks to this huge performance in a €5,300 buy in tournament, they will have big chances to win several positions and increase their value.

An other event in Deauville that gatherer quite a few players, was the €10,000 High Roller, won by Vojtech Ruzicka (GPI#246). Ruzicka took home € 313,000 and a beautiful trophy. For sure, this performance should also send him up the GPI rankings and already increase his value (sold 35,290 today on FPM).

So, yes you will then have to sell those players to make your team for the WPT National Brussels, and lose another 5%, but if you follow the poker news (we publish daily news on the GPI website which you can find by clicking here), you could find yourself making some great deals and even increase the value of your wallet!
