Ivey Leads WSOP Main Event, WPT500 Nears Final Table

WSOP Main Event Field Thins Toward Unified Field

The 2014 World Series of Poker is in its last few days of action, but the $10K NLHE World Championship is still going strong. It started on July 5 and drew 6,683 players and a $62,820,200 prize pool, the fifth largest Main Event in its history.

Tuesday reduced the Day 1A and Day 1B players from 1,933 players down to just 822. Timothy Stansifer was the chip leader with 481,500 in his stack.

Wednesday started with 2,571 players from Day 1C, and that number was cut by nearly half by the dinner break. At that time, Phil Ivey looked to be the chip leader with 421K.

After dinner, some of the players who departed the field were Phil Hellmuth, Bryan Micon, Anna Khait, Cindy Kerslake, Matt Giannetti, Shawn Buchanan, and Jennifer Harman.

WPT500 Nears Final Table

The WPT500 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas was the latest big tournament from the World Poker Tour. The $565 NLHE tournament allowed daily reentries and a $1 million guarantee.

There were six starting days:

Day 1A: 443 players started, 22 finished

Day 1B: 366 players started, 18 finished

Day 1C: 457 players started, 22 finished

Day 1D: 780 players started, 36 finished

Day 1E: 879 players started, 44 finished

Day 1F: 674 players started, 34 finished

The final total for the tournament was 3,599 entries and a $1,799,500 prize pool.

Day 1F was the final chance for players to get in on the action and offered a turbo schedule at 8:30 in the morning. Once that portion of the tournament was complete, play moved forward with all surviving Day 1 players returning to the tables.

Play continued with 176 players already in the money and guaranteed at least $1,250 in cash.

Some of the eliminated players throughout the early evening hours were Mike Leah, Ole Schemion, Dan O’Brien, David Tuthill, Mike Sexton, Mohsin Charania, Kevin Saul, Mike Linster, Tommy Vu, Massoud Esfandiari, Tom Dobrilovic, Scott Montgomery, and Jamie Kerstetter.

With 27 players remaining, payouts were guaranteed to be at least $10K. Scott Clements and Christian Harder were the chip leaders.
