Negreanu Set to Lead GPI WSOP Rankings as Main Event November Nine Looms

The World Series of Poker Main Event is in full force at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino and the remaining players are all looking for one last shot at glory in the tournament that could change everything for the lucky winner.

Looking at all open events played during the World Series of Poker this summer, Daniel Negreanu’s nine cashes, including two second place and six Top 10 finishes, sees him at the top of the rankings using the Global Poker Index’s exclusive scoring calculation. Negreanu has accumulated 677.56 points in WSOP events this summer, just about 8 points more than two-time WSOP bracelet winner George Danzer.

Danzer is currently the only player to have won two bracelets this summer and joins Negreanu as the only two players to score over 600 points during the Series. Nick Schulman, Ismael Bojang and first-time bracelet winner Brandon Shack-Harris round out the Top 5.

Shack-Harris leads the official WSOP Player of the Year race. A comparison between the two Top 10 lists reveals many of the usual suspects. Negreanu, Danzer, Shack-Harris, 2013 November Niner J.C. Tran and Richard Ashby all appear on both lists.

Nick Schulman and John Hennigan are ranked third on opposite lists, yet neither player made the cut on the other one. The same is true for a few others including Thomas Koral and Justin Bonomo, who each appear in sixth position on one of the lists.

The Main Event winner will collect 260.94 GPI PoY points while a min-cash will allow a player to add 44.91 points to his PoY totals.

Any of the players currently ranked in the Top 21 could surpass Negreanu with a Main Event victory. Meanwhile, any current member of the Top 10 who qualifies for the November Nine would also takeover from Negreanu. That said, Ismael Bojang is the only member of the Top 10 that remains in contention, as of press time.
