Ole! Ole! Ole! Ole!

German superstar Ole Schemion picked up his first victory of the 2014 season and the 10th of his career over the weekend and stands to shake up plenty of races on the live tournament circuit…

SANREMO’S SHINING STAR

Ole Schemion GPIJust when you start to think that Ole Schemion (GPI#3) might be slowing down a bit, he goes off and wins another poker tournament … which is exactly what he did on Sunday, winning the High Roller event at EPT Sanremo, adding another € 265,000 to a bank roll that seems to keep on growing daily.

Schemion’s win over Canada’s Max Greenwood (GPI#121) was the 10th of his burgeoning poker career, inching closer to the 5M USD total earnings mark. At this rate, Schemion will be getting to that mark very shortly.

EPT PLAYER OF THE YEAR RACE

His win allows his to add to his lead atop the EPT Season 10 Player of the Year Leaderboard, powered by the Global Poker Index. Schemion crossed the 1,000 point mark with the High Roller victory, increasing his lead to over 200 points on Thomas Muehloecker (GPI#43), who took over 2nd place from Vanessa Selbst (GPI#2) with his 14th place finish in the High Roller event.

Russian star Alex Bilokur (GPI#18) also made a big move in Sanremo. His 48th place finish in the Main Event and his 3rd place finish in the High Roller event have allowed him to move up to 4th on the EPT PoY list.

Although Schemion has increased his lead at the top, rumours that this race is all but over couldn’t be any further from the truth. Although there will be some work to be done, Schemion can still be caught. Here is a look at the EPT PoY Top 10 heading into the EPT Grand Final Festival:

3. Vanessa Selbst (USA) 803.87
4. Alex Bilokur (RUS) 794.40
5. Dominik Panka (POL) 608.60
6. Adrian Mateos Diaz (ESP) 605.16
7. Jeffrey Rossiter (AUS) 590.27

SCHEMION BACK TO #1 ON GPI300?

Ole Schemion GPISchemion’s win will also make waves when the Global Poker Index releases its next set of rankings on Wednesday.

The German will roughly add 280 points to his current score, placing him first overall, and very close to the 4,000-point mark. Only Daniel Negreanu (GPI#1) has ever crossed the 4,000-point barrier in the history of the GPI300.

Now this is only speculation as old results could continue to lose value. Schemion’s three-win performance during the EPT Grand Final Festival last season are safe for another week as they happened in early May 2013, moreover, only one of these three wins is currently counting for points so he shouldn’t be hurt too much once those results continue to lose value in a few weeks time.

Schemion is also expected to add 170 points in the GPI Player of the Year, placing him inside the Top 5 for the fourth week this season. Schemion spent three weeks ranked inside the Top 5 back in January following his performances at the 2014 PCA.

We’ll have to wait until Wednesday to find out if Ole will once again take over from Kid Poker atop the GPI300 … both players, along with World #2 Vanessa Selbst and World #5 Jason Mercier, will all be competing at the EPT Grand Final later this week, the Top 5 could look very different when next week’s standings come around.
