Ole Schemion: First 2013 GPI Player of the Month

The Global Poker Index is proud to introduce the newest addition to our ranking system, the GPI Player of the Month. The GPI PoM will be yet another way to highlight excellence in live tournament poker and celebrate the talent of the best poker players worldwide. Each month we will be announcing the names of the winner and runner-up for PoM as well as discussing the success that got them there. The Player of the Month will be calculated very similarly to the way the Player of the Year Standings are calculated with one important difference, there will be no cap on the number of cashes a player can include in their score. Ole SchemionThe January 2013 Player of the Month title goes to Ole Schemion. Schemion is currently 18th in the GPI Rankings, 7th in the Player of the Year global Standings, and 1st in the Player of the Year Standings for Germany. Schemion has a total score for January of 290 points after making three final table appearances in one month. His largest score, 141 points, was for his 4th place finish in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 NLHE High Roller. At the PCA he also earned 84 points for finishing 5th in the $10,000 NLHE 6-Max. His final score came in a near win in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$5,000 NLHE Mix-Max event. Despite the runner-up finish his final score, 65 points, was his lowest score of the month due to the event having both a smaller buy-in and field size than the PCA events.

The February Player of the Month race is in full swing with Aussie Millions $25,000 NLHE Challenge winner Igor Kurganov currently in the lead followed closely by Kent Lundmark. Check back here in early March for the announcement of the winner.
