Corey Burbick

Corey Burbick is a professional poker player who had his first live-event cash in 2009. In the first 3 years, Corey cashed 18 times, made 7 final tables, won a pair of events, cashed in 5 WSOP events, and earned close to $400,000. During that time he was also a very successful online player, earning over $4.2 million.

Born in 1987 in Florida, Corey graduated from Pembroke Pines Charter High School, and went on to attend Florida State University. A product of the “Moneymaker Boom,” Corey became hooked on poker in 2003 when he started playing $5 home games with friends after watching the WSOP. In 2005, he moved to Tallahassee to attend FSU and deposited $50 on PartyPoker where he played mostly Sit-n-Gos.

Playing online as “comandr_cool,” Corey started racking up wins at all of the major online poker sites. On Full Tilt Poker in 2008, he was runner-up for $43,248 in a Sunday Brawl, was 3rd for $47,400 in a $1K Monday, finished runner-up for $29,986 in a Sunday Mulligan, and finished 3rd in another $1K Monday to earn $42,270. In 2009, he took down the Absolute Poker $100k Guaranteed for $26,000 and then won the UB.com $200K Guaranteed for $47,500. In 2010, he won the Full Tilt Poker $100K Guarantee for another $56,000.

On PokerStars some of his accomplishments were winning a pair of $50 NLHE events for over $37,000 combined, finishing 5th for $42,840 in a WCOOP event, and winning a $100 NLHE for $29,673. In May 2010, Corey had his biggest online cash when he won the SCOOP $500 NLHE 6-Max for $183,060. The same year, he won the PokerStars Sunday 500 for $91,100, placed 3rd for $77,400 in the Sunday Warm-Up, and was runner-up in the $1K Super Tuesday to earn $61,100.

The year Corey turned 21 he took his game live, and made his first live-event cash at the 2009 WSOP where he made the money twice. In the $1,500 NLHE he earned his first live cash of $5,293 when he finished 80th. Less than a week later, he took 79th in the $2,000 NLHE for $6,262.

Corey’s next cash was in 2010 when he finished 5th in the $1,500 NLHE at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) to earn $33,420. His other pair of cashes that year were at the WSOP where he made the money in $1,500 and $1,000 NLHE events.

Although as “comandr_cool” Corey’s accomplishments were well known online, it wasn’t until 2011 that he made a name for himself at live-events. He started the year at the PCA, where he final tabled the $1,000 NLHE, finishing 8th for $7,945. Later the same month, he was at home in Florida to win the $5,000 NLHE Main Event Championship for $108,570 at the Chad Brown Poker Series in Orange Park, and cashed at the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown. At the WSOP, he went deep in the $1,500 NLHE, finishing 10th to earn $37,394.

Corey’s next cashes were at the Summer Splash WPT Regional Event Hollywood, The River Guaranteed Poker Series, and 3 in-the-money finishes at the Isle Open Poker Championship, where he won the $1,100 NLHE 6-Max to earn $27,000. To end the year, he cashed at the WPT Jacksonville, and finished 3rd in the $2,000 NLHE Championship Event at the WPT Regional Series in Tampa Florida to collect $52,136.

To start 2012, Corey was at the PCA in January where he cashed twice. He took 6th for $14,140 in the $5,000 NLHE 8-Max Turbo, and finished 21st in the $10,000 NLHE Main Event to earn $52,000. The same month he was in Biloxi for the Southern Poker Million Dollar Heater, where he finished 12th in the $5,000 NLHE Main Event to collect $14,259.

Even though he was a full-time student, Corey always considered himself a professional poker player. When he isn’t at the tables, he enjoys partying with friends, sports and watching his favorite teams, the Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins, Florida State Seminoles, Miami Heat, and the Florida Panthers.
