Massimiliano “Max” Martinez is an Italian professional poker player who made his first live event cash in 2010. In the first 2 years, he cashed 11 times, made 4 final tables, won 3 events, cashed at the WSOP 4 times, and earned over $344,000. During that time he was also a successful online poker player.
Born in 1987, Max was a medical student in Rome for 4 years, before switching his focus to study economics. While he was at the university in 2007, he was introduced to poker. In 2008, he started playing online as “Visdiabuli” at Full Tilt Poker, where his biggest scores were in 2011, when he cashed for $14,576 in a $750K event, and won a FTOPS event for $27,843.
In 2011, Max started playing at PokerStars, where he has won dozens of €250 NLHE Heads-up Turbo tournaments. He also won a seat in the PokerStars Big Game as a “Loose Cannon,” where he dominated the action in the midst of some of the best players in poker, and walked away with $163,000.
Max made his first live event cash in 2010 at the Poker Grand Prix Saint-Vincent when he won the €1,000 NLHE for €25,980. Five months later, he was back at the Poker Grand Prix, for his next pair of cashes in €500 PLO events, winning one for €3,560, and taking 6th in another for €1,000. To end his year, Max was at the IPT Nova Gorica, where he cashed for €3,200 in the €2,000 NLHE Main Event.
In 2011, Max cashed 7 times, including cashing 4 times at the WSOP. He started the year by winning the IPT Pro League €3,200 NLHE at the EPT San Remo, to earn €69,000. Spending the summer in Las Vegas, he played the PokerStars Big Game while attending his first WSOP, where he cashed 4 times. He started his WSOP run by cashing in both the $2,500 LHE and NLHE 6-Max events for $8,786 and $5,705. He earned $52,431 when he finished 10th in the $5,000 NLHE 6-Max, and cashed for $54,851 in the Main Event.
In August, Max finished 12th at the 2011 EPT Barcelona €5,000 NLHE Main Event to earn €36,000. His last cash of the year was at the Partouche Poker Tour in Cannes, where he finished 39th in the €8,500 NLHE Main Event for €17,000.
When Max is not studying or playing poker, he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, poker player Carla Solinas.
