Philipp Gruissem is a young poker player who made his first live event cash in 2009. In the first 2 years, he had cashed 6 times, made 5 final tables, won 3 events, and earned close to $1.5 million. He has also been a successful online poker player, earning over $2 million.
Originally from Krefeld, Germany, Philipp started playing poker online as “philbort” in 2008. Some of his biggest scores were at Full Tilt Poker, where in in 2009, he was runner-up for $82,600 in a $750k Guaranteed, and finished 5th in a $1.5 million Guaranteed event for $68,800. The same year, he won the UB $200k Guaranteed for $48,200, was runner-up for $36,000 in the PartyPoker $300k Guaranteed, and won the Absolute Poker $100k Guaranteed for another $38,500. At PokerStars in 2010, he was runner-up for $63,500 in a Sunday 500, and in 2011, cashed in several SCOOP events to pocket over $130,000. His biggest cash was for $219,800 when he was runner-up in the 2010 UBOC $2,500 NLHE 6-Max Event.
Philipp’s first live event cash was for HK$117,750 when he won the HK$7,500 NLHE 8-Max event at the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Macau. His other cash that year was at the Hold\\\’em Series Paris, where he finished 8th in the €3,000 NLHE to earn €14,750. Although Philipp didn’t cash in 2010, he made up for it with big scores in 2011.
As of October, Philipp had cashed 4 times, and won 2 EPT events in 2011. In April, Philipp finished 3rd in the €10,000 NLHE 8- Max at the EPT Berlin to collect €67,000. To get to the WSOP that summer, he won his Main Event seat at PokerStars in a $700 Main Event Passport satellite. Once at the WSOP, he finished 28th in the Main Event for $242,636.
At the 2011 EPT Barcelona, Philipp won the €10,000 NLHE Single Reload event, earning €234,500. He then won the £20,000 NLHE High Roller Event at the EPT/UK & Ireland Poker Tour in London to take home £450,200.
Philipp continues to play poker online from his current home in London. When he takes a break from poker, he enjoys Ultimate Fighting Championship events.
