Rob Akery is a 25 year-old professional poker player who resides in Bristol, United Kingdom. Since embarking on the tournament circuit, he has had 16 cashes, made 7 final tables, and earned close to $900,000 as of July 2011.
Akery first cashed in a big way in November, 2007 when he made the final table and finished second for £53,250 ($111,232) in the Great British Poker Tour (GCBPT) £2,500 Grand Final in his hometown of Bristol.
In 2008, he cashed twice, both by making the final table. His first final table appearance was at the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne where he finished ninth in the A$10,000 NLH Main Event to win A$175,000 ($153,830). He followed that win with a second place finish for £52,000 ($79,900) in the £1,500 NLH Championship GCBPT Event in Bristol. Then in 2009, he went to the EPT in London and cashed in fourth place for £16,100 ($25,630) in the £1,000 NLH Six Max event.
The year 2010 would find Rob cashing five times and making two final tables. To start off the year, he cashed three times at the NAPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), Paradise Island, Bahamas. First he won $20,000 when he finished 124th in the $10,000 NLH Main Event. Then he had a 17th place finish in the $5,000 NLH event for $10,865. He went on to hit the final table and finish second for $77,695 in the $5,000 NLH 6 Max event.
His next win was in Las Vegas where he finished fifth in the $10,000 WPT 2010 Championship Bellagio Cup VI to take home $169,930. To end the year, Rob was back in London for the EPT £5,000 NLH Main Event UKIPT Grand Final event where he placed 66th for £11,000 ($17,214).
The next year, 2011, would find Rob traveling around the world where he cashed seven times and made one final table. In January, he was back in the Bahamas for the PCA where he cashed in two events. First he came in 118th in the $10,000 NLH Main Event for a $20,000 payday. Then he finished 13th in the $25,000 NLH High Roller Event to win $73,990. For the year, Rob cashed in a total of five EPT events and the WPT Vienna. His best showing in an EPT event was at the Grand Final in Madrid where he finished second for €90,450 ($134,249) in the €2,000 NLH event.
2011 was also the year Rob made his first WSOP cash when he finished 164th for $3,375 in the $1,500 NLH event.
