JC Tran Wins WPT Rolling Thunder in Legendary Fashion

J.C. Tran becomes a two-time WPT Champ near his hometown of Sacramento

THE LEGEND

J.C. Tran GPIJ.C. Tran (GPI#331) seemed unstoppable at one point of his career. WPT final tables were coming in waves and Tran was one of the most feared players on the live tournament circuit.

Then, a few years went by and we hadn’t heard much from the Sacramento man. Tran took a lot of time off to raise his family, choosing to play a drastically reduced schedule. But that all changed this past summer in Las Vegas.

Tran would announce to the world that he was back when he qualified for the November Nine, finishing the summer portion of the WSOP Main Event first in chips. Tran wouldn’t win the Main, but he was far from being done.

Major scores at the inaugural WPT Alpha8 event in Florida and a final table performance on the Heartland Poker Tour, right here at the Thunder Valley Casino just minutes from his Sacramento home, and Tran was back in the game!

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE

JC Tran GPITran entered final table play at WPT Rolling Thunder with a big problem. There is no doubt that Tran could be the most dangerous play at the FT, but, he found himself very low in chips to start the day so he would need to kick things into gear early in order to even contemplate winning the event.

Tran would win plenty of smaller pots early but it’s a turned straight over Benjamin Zamani (GPI#280) that would put Tran in the drivers’ seat. Hours later, Tran’s hand would be raised in victory and the WPT would have another two-time champion.
