WSOP Main Event: Keep An Eye On Ladouceur

Redemption Day. At least, that’s what Marc-André Ladouceur (GPI#47) after a heartbreaking end to his 2012 WSOP Main Event run, the second deep run in as many years.

Very few players have ever made back-to-back deep runs in the Main Event. Amazingly, Dan Harrington final tabled the Main Event in back-to-back years in 2003 and 2004 … and 2004 Main Event Champ Greg Raymer threatened to win the event two years in a row before bowing out late in 2005.

M-A Ladouceur FPMLadouceur finished 63rd in the 2011 Main Event and followed that up with a deep, deep run last year. After carrying the chip lead into Top 27 play, the Quebec pro seemed destined to finally breakthrough on the live tournament circuit and make an appearance in the October Nine.

All seemed to be rolling along smoothly until Ladouceur suffered one of the toughest beats one could ever take so deep in the Main Event. All-in pre-flop against Andras Koroknai, both players showed AK off-suit. Four straight clubs hit the board and in the toughest beat of his career, Ladouceur found himself short, real short with the hopes of making the October Nine a sudden distant memory.

To Ladouceur’s credit, he quickly bounced back on tour collecting back-to-back +100K scores on the European Poker Tour including the first major victory of his poker career winning the High Roller tournament at EPT Sanremo. In total, Ladouceur’s 2012 season would end with just under 900K USD in earnings, not bad for someone who called himself a “part-time” poker player.

Now, it’s hard to feel real bad for a player who won close to 500K USD in last year’s Main Event, but you have the feeling that Ladouceur is looking for redemption. With so much experience gained on the EPT in the months following his second Main Event run, this could be the right time to grab Ladouceur for your WSOP Main Event FPM team.
