2014 GPI PoY: Panka Keeps on Trucking

A familiar face continues to make waves in the 2014 Player of the Year race…

PANKA’S PROMISING SEASON

Dominik Panka GPIIt was easy to write-off Dominik Panka (GPI#208) as a one-hit wonder when he got the best of Mike McDonald (GPI#7) heads-up to win the 2014 PCA to kickoff the 2014 season. But once he won the EPT Deauville High Roller, it become more and more difficult for even the biggest doubters to call him a flash in the pan.

But after collecting his third and fourth final table finishes of the season last week at EPT Vienna, it’s obvious that Panka is here to stay. Now one of Poland’s top players, Panka returns to #2 on the 2014 GPI Player of the Year list, trailing only American Keven Stammen (GPI#42), who took over the PoY race last week.

Panka, who held the #1 spot on the PoY list for a week in February, was named GPI Player of the Month for January 2014.

Here is a look at Panka’s results so far this season:

OTHER STARS TRENDING

Dan Heimiller GPIDan Heimiller (GPI#100) just keeps on racking up points this season. Heimiller collected his 12th score of the season late last week in a 1K prelim event at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown.

Aussie Millions Champion Ami Barer (GPI#86) continues his 2014 charge to the top. Barer, who also cashed in the 25K High Roller event at the 2014 PCA, returned from EPT Vienna with two scores, including a 4th place finish in a 2K prelim.

UK pro Tom Hall (GPI#87) also added two scores in Vienna, a pair of runner-up finishes to be more precise. Hall’s 2nd place doubles added over 180 points to his 2014 season totals moving him back into the PoY Top 25.
