LAS VEGAS, February 23, 2023 – The Global Poker Index® (GPI) released its first Player of the Year rankings of the year this week as American star Jeremy Ausmus on top of the overall race, as he did to kick off the 2022 poker season.

Ausmus would end finishing third in the race, behind fellow Americans Adam Hendrix and eventual winner Stephen Song, who will be celebrated for his achievements (Song won the GPI Mid-Major PoY title as well) at the Global Poker Awards in Las Vegas, airing exclusively on PokerGO® on Friday, March 3rd at 5:30pm PT.

Back to Ausmus, who has collected nine qualifying results so far – including a win in a side event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas. Ausmus would return home from the Bahamas with four more results, including a 13th place finish in the PSPC Main Event for his best score of this young season.

The Las Vegas native has also earned scores at the PGT PokerGO Cup, the Lucky Hearts Poker Open and the PGT Mixed Games.

Ausmus holds a small lead on Tony Lin. Meanwhile, Justin Saliba and Anthony Hu, who have both enjoyed hot starts to the season, sit in third and fourth place respectively, with Jesse Lonis in fifth. The first non-American to appear in the PoY rankings is the UK’s Andrew Wilson, who sits sixth.

Ticherfatine leads Female PoY

WSOP International Circuit Dakar Main Event winner Cecile Ticherfatine leads the way in the Female PoY race. The French native has already collected two victories and two other Top 3 finishes so far this season.

Ticherfatine holds a minuscule 9-point lead over a very familiar face, 2021 GPI Female Player of the Year Nadya Magnus while former back-to-back-to-back Female PoY, Kristen Foxen, also sits in the Top 5.

2022 Female PoY runner-up Angela Jordison is currently in seventh position.

Whittington the player to beat for Mid-Major title

American Blake Whittington sits atop the GPI Mid-Major race. Whittington has also collected 12 scores, one away from the 13 max, which means that all new results will have to hold better scores than his current 13th score in order to add points to his total overall score once he earns his next qualifying result.

Whittington leads Australian Daniel Noja, American Jonathan Moschel and French player Idir Haiche in the Top 4. Las Vegas grinder Eric “Basebaldy” Baldwin rounds-out the Top 5.
