Aussie Millions 2014 Schedule, O’Dwyer Running Hot in Galway

Poker Down Under

The schedule for next year’s Aussie Millions has just been released and contained within the roster is a number of familiar events.

Indeed, alongside the AUD$10,000 Main Event will a selection of High Roller and Super High Roller events with buy-ins ranging from AUD$25,000 to AUD$250,000.

Also on offer for players inside the Crown Casino will be an AUD$1,000 Accumulator tournament which gives players the ability to enter multiple Day 1s and merge their stacks ahead of Day 2.

The Aussie Millions will be the second major festival of 2014, kicking off on January 23 just after the PCA comes to a conclusion on January 13.

Running through until February 10, the festival will incorporate 19 gold ring events and a number of recognisable pros are expected to attend.

Indeed, Gus Hansen, who took down the Main Event in 2007, has already signaled his intention to make the trip Down Under. When asked about his thoughts on the event, he said:

It’s the place I keep coming back to for the poker, the Australian Open tennis, the atmosphere, the staff and the Australian people. The exquisite effort by Crown to make it a great event for the novice, the aspiring amateur and the high-stakes pro keeps you coming back time after time.”

UKIPT’s Irish Championship

UKIPT Galway is gradually building to a climax this week and to ensure the raising arms of the pros in attendance are well lubricated ahead of the Main Event the opening day of the Irish Poker Championship got underway yesterday.

With an entry fee of €2,500, the first session saw 52 players make a bid for the lion’s share of the €115,000+ prizepool.

Among those sitting down for an event fuelled as much by Guinness as poker, was the likes of Steve O’Dwyer, Jake Cody and Matt Perrins; however, as the day progressed only two of the three would survive.

While Jake scraped through the day with 22,000 chips, Steve managed to ride a wave of positive variance and bag a table-topping stack of 265,400. That haul was enough to send him through to today’s penultimate session ahead of Max Silver (216,500) and Thomas Hall (186,100).

Day 2 kicked off early with 12 players still fighting for the title and at the time of writing Jake Cody had already hit the rail after his A-Q was unable to find its way past his opponent’s pocket sevens.
