4th Global Poker Awards Celebrates Best in the Business Throughout 2022

  • Song and Andrews win Male and Female PoY
  • Chidwick and Yau honored twice
  • Shahade and Hartigan win their 2nd GPA

LAS VEGAS, March 3, 2023 – The Global Poker Awards (GPAs) returned this evening inside the PokerGO® Studio at Aria Resort & Casino, honoring the stars of the poker community in 2022.

A total of 26 awards were handed out for 2022 with a trio of players collecting multiple trophies including Global Poker Index (GPI) Player of the Year Stephen Song, Stephen Chidwick, and Ethan Yau. Female Player of the Year Cherish Andrews was also recognized along with first-time GPA winners Phil Ivey, Jack Effel, Daniel Cates, Kevin Martin, Ray Pulford, Will Jaffe, Caitlin Comeskey, Hayley Hochstetler, and Angela Jordison.

Song let his play do the talking as he also grabbed the award for Mid-Major Player of the Year. Chidwick added his second and third GPA having been voted Players Choice for Toughest Opponent by his peers for the second time. Chidwick also won the PokerGO Tour Player of the Year. Yau picked up his first two awards winning for Best Vlogger and was also voted as Fans Choice: Poker Personality.

It was a tight race for both GPI PoY winners as Song and Andrews took over the top spot during the closing moments of 2022. Andrews narrowly climbed over Jordison to claim the female title however, Jordison was not left empty-handed as she was presented the award for Breakout Player.

Several honorees collected their second piece of hardware. After winning Best Podcast last year, James Hartigan was voted for Best Broadcaster of 2022. Jennifer Shahade kept the trend going as another former winner of Best Podcast, this year, Shahade won the award for best Media Content: Written. RunGood Poker Series continued its domination in the Mid-Major Tour/Circuit category winning the award for the third time.

The Wynn, World Poker Tour (WPT), and the World Series of Poker (WSOP) were among the Industry members celebrated. After successfully organizing a venue move for the biggest poker festival in the world, Jack Effel (WSOP) won Best Industry Person and the WSOP won Fans Choice: Best Trophy for the WSOP Main Event bracelet. The Wynn’s Ray Pulford won Best Tournament Director and collectively the Wynn and WPT won the award for Best Event for the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.
