EPT Deauville: Pick Anton Wigg

NOTE: This article has been released prior to the start of Day 2 play at EPT Deauville. Although this player has confirmed his participation, please be sure to check if he officially entered the event and survived Day 1 play.

Anton Wigg (GPI: 163) may just be the hottest poker player in the world coming into EPT Deauville.  Wigg was a huge chip leader for a while on Saturday as the France Poker Series Deauville Main Event was playing down to a final table.  Although things didn’t end up all that well after the dinner break – he finished 17th – Wigg still looked good for a long while.

But Wigg wasn’t done yet.  On Sunday, he entered the 2K PLO event at EPT Deauville, hoping to play one more warm-up event before entering Day 1B of the Main Event on Monday.  With 18 players left (same spot as yesterday), Wigg wasn’t amongst the top stacks, in fact, he would have some work to do before hoping to make it to the final table.  Less than an hour later, the final table was set and Wigg was right in the thick of the action, holding the final 8 chip lead.

Wigg ended up winning the event, setting himself up for a strong performance starting on Monday.

The former EPT Copenhagen Champion didn’t have the best season of his career in 2012, but he still ended up with over 235K USD in live tournament winnings (including a win the 2K NLH Turbo side event at EPT Berlin), leaving his about 40K shy of 1.5M for his career.

At a FPM current market price of just a little over 90K, you should be able to easily afford Wigg.  Plus, that’s not a bad price to pay for a former EPT Champion.

Also, both Jeffrey Rossiter and Jake Cody have them on their fantasy teams.  There is something to be said when your peers are picking you on their squads.
