EPT London Catch Up, Tony G Running for Parliament

Pros Fall as EPT London Sets Payouts

After welcoming 387 for a second day of action inside London’s Grand Connaught Rooms this year’s EPT London Main Event saw another set of strong performances from team Germany. Indeed, in much the same way that Martin Finger and Tobias Reinkemeier dominated the £50,000 Super High Roller, Marvin Rettenmaier (69,600) and Benny Spindler (37,000) were amongst those sailing through the session into Day 2.

The magic that seems to have swept the German poker scene seems to have rubbed off on its national neighbours, Austria, in the last 24 hours. Indeed, whilst Rettenmaier and Spindler were amongst the chasing pack, it was Maximilian Senft who ended up leading the field. By the time the session had come to a close the young Austrian had managed to rake in 223,000 and climb to second on the overall leaderboard.

Joining Senft and amongst the 235 survivors on Day 1B was a raft of pros, including: Davidi Kitai (163,100), Chris Brammer (161,200), John Juanda (156,100) and Dave Ulliott(107,000). After a night’s rest the aforementioned players joined forces with those left over from Day 1A to fill the EPT tournament area with 370 players earlier today.

From those who’d qualified for just a few dollars to pros with more money than sense, the dynamics of today’s session have certainly been entertaining as the field has dropped below the 250 player mark.

At the time of writing a host of inimitable pros such as Phil Hellmuth had fallen by the wayside and short of the opening payouts. Indeed, after hours of crunching numbers behind the scenes the payouts for this year’s event were finally set. Thanks to just over 600 entrants a total of 87 players will receive at least £9,080 with the winner set to earn an impressive £560,980.

Tony Aiming for Political Success

According to a recent Facebook post it seems that Tony G isn’t just a formidable figure at the poker table. Indeed, in the last 24 hours the confident pro described how he’s made it through to the second round of Lithuania’s European Parliamentary elections.

Representing the country’s Liberal Party, Tony successfully made it through the first stage of voting and will now compete for the one remaining seat in the European Parliament.

Whilst the news may come as a shock to many in the industry, Tony appears deadly serious about his potential new role in the political world, writing:

I think that Lithuanian politics needs new people and new blood and I want to change policy. I have been fortunate enough myself to be reasonably successful in my life and I have new ideas and hope to inspire others to come into politics too. I think I can bring a lot to the table with my experience in life and business.”

Tony’s new venture does, however, mean he’ll be taking some time away from the tables over the coming months, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to stop needling his peers.

Indeed, he finished his post with a pot-shot at US Politian John McCain by saying: “There’ll be no online poker being played during debates on my watch.”
