GPI POM March: Paul Volpe

The March 2013 Player of the Month title goes to American Paul Volpe. The March race was a tight one with Volpe pulling off the victory by just an 8 point margin over runner-up Christopher Frank of Germany.

Frank cashed four times during the month compared to only two cashes for Volpe but both of Volpe’s scores were large allowing him to take the title. He posted his largest score early when he finished 3rd out of a field of 643 in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars $7,150 NLHE Main Event. That earned him 140 points, one of the largest scores by any player throughout the month. All four of Frank’s cashes were from the EPT/UK & Ireland Poker Tour – London festival where Volpe posted his second score. Volpe placed 4th of the 112 entries in the £10,000 NLHE High Roller earning an additional 111 points for a total March score of 251 points.

Frank’s first two scores at the London festival were in the £1,000 NLHE Turbo Win the Button event and the £2,000 NLHE High Roller. He placed 10th in each of those events earning a combined 74 points. He picked up 44 additional points by finishing 5th in the £2,000 NLHE Six-Handed II event. Frank earned his largest score was for his final table appearance in the NLHE Main Event. The £5,000 buy-in event attracted 647 runners and earned Frank 125 points for a total March score of 243 points.

Paul Volpe currently holds the following positions on the Global Poker Index Rankings and in the GPI Player of the Year Standings:

Quiet Beginning to April Race

Only 35 players posted PoM scores in the first week of April. They are lead by the top three finishers in the R$10,000 NLHE Super High Roller held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The winner of the event, Felipe Ramos, earned 68 points followed by 2nd place finisher Fabio Colonese with 53 points and 44 points for 3rd place finisher Gabriel Goffi Moreira.
