GPI Tournament Report: WPT Cyprus, APT Korea, MSPT + More

We take you to Cyprus, Korea, New Zealand, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Minnesota in this week’s GPI Tournament Recap:

bwin WPT MERIT CYPRUS CLASSIC

Sergey Rybachenko GPIAlexey Rybin (GPI#1305) won the bwin Merit Cyprus Classic defeating Albert Daher (GPI#4883) heads-up. Rybin collected the second biggest cash of his career with the win, he earned €270,000 for his final table performance at EPT Sanremo in 2010.

Sergey Rybachenko (GPI#438) (pictured, right), who earned a Top 50 finish in the 2010 WSOP Main Event, also final tabled the event while former WSOP National Euro Finals of Poker winner Natalya Nikitina (GPI#9864) finished 11th.

Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#2) defeated Roger Hairabedian (GPI#29) heads-up to win the High Roller event. Mustafa Biz picked up three wins in side events while Alexander Khizhnyak won two sides.

APT KOREA

Johnny Chan GPILifeng Shen of China won the APT Korea Main Event defeating poker legend Johnny Chan (GPI#3263) heads-up for the title. 2013 APPT Seoul Champion Jae Kyung Sim (GPI#1029) finished fourth in the event.

Only 45 players entered the Main Event compared to 166 players earlier this year … that tournament, however, had a much smaller buy-in (1K USD).

SEOUL POKER CUP

Seoul Poker Cup GPIKorean Paulo Seungworl No won the Seoul Poker Cup outlasting a total of 170 players for the victory. No earned 51,850,000 KRW for the victory.

Japan’s Masato Shimizu (GPI#6963), who won the APT Philippines High Roller event back in 2011, finished 9th in this event.

MSPT BATTLE CREEK

MSPT Logo GPIThe latest tour stop on the Mid-States Poker Tour schedule was at the FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek, Michigan where Jordan Townsend won his first MSPT title.

GPI1000 member Patrick Steele (GPI#983), who finished fourth in this very event back in March, earned another fourth place finish this time around. Steele won the Heartland Poker Tour Michigan Main Event in May.

SANDS BETHLEHEM DEEP STACK EXTRAVAGANZA

Sands DSE GPIUke Dauti (GPI#34621) of Stanhope, New Jersery defeated Brooklyn’s Brian Roff (GPI#15198) heads-up to win the Sands Bethlehem Deep Stack Extravaganza Main Event taking home the lion’s share of the $373,984 USD prize pool.

Third place finisher Joel Frank, who won a prelim event during the 2006 WPT World Poker Finals, currently sits in 3750th position on the GPI charts.

NEW ZEALAND POKER CHAMPIONSHIP

Steve Smith (GPI#35326) of Australia has won the New Zealand Poker Championship surviving the charge of the 127-player field to earn the second win of his career on the live tournament circuit.

2012 Champion Paul Hockin (GPI#4635) finished 21st in the event.

TWIN CITIES POKER OPEN

Twin Cities OpenSt. Paul native Mario Hudson (GPI#8864) won the Twin Cities Poker Open in his home state of Minnesota. Hudson defeated 2007 Gold Strike World Poker Open PLO Championship winner Tony Hartmann (GPI#1409) heads-up for the title.

The past few weeks have been very good for Everett Carlton (GPI#428). Coming off back-to-back final table appearances on the Mid-States Poker Tour, Carlton final tabled this event as well, finishing in fifth position.
