GPI300: All calm ahead of the Schemion storm

The song remains the same this week as our Top 10 remains 100% intact as we await Schemion’s latest score …

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Dan Smith GPIAnother Wednesday, another week at the top for Dan Smith (GPI#1, =), who begins his 14th straight week at the top of the GPI World Poker Rankings, by far the longest consecutive weeks at #1 streak of the season. Ole Schemion (GPI#1, =) held the #1 spot for eight straight weeks from April 23 to June 11, 2014.

Speaking of Schemion, we’ll have to wait another week to see if his recent performance in Amsterdam shake up the rankings. Schemion finished 2nd in the High Roller event at the Master Classics of Poker, currently underway at the Holland Casino. Those points will hit the system next week. There are a few results that will lose value for him next week, but it does look the young German’s downswing of late is about turn around. Schemion may not even be done; he was the chip leader following Day 1 play in the Main Event in Amsterdam – another late-season heater may be in order for the 2013 GPI Poker Player of the Year.

The Top 10 remains 100% identical this week, and this, for the first time in a very, very long time! Although the Top 10 remains the same, there is some movement on the bubble as fellow Canadians Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#11, +1) and Sorel Mizzi (GPI#12, -1) switch spots.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

It was a good week for many GPI300 members who cashed at the inaugural WPT UK at the Dusk Till Dawn as many of them moved up the ranks, including final table participants Tamer Kamel (GPI#155, +110) and 2013 November Niner Sylvain Loosli (GPI#193, +105) are the two biggest movers this week.

As expected, WPT UK High Roller winner Bryn Kenney (GPI#22, +28) shot right back up the standings and may be getting another boost next week following his final four showing in the High Roller event at the Master Classics of Poker, just a year after winning that very title.

DOWN THE LADDER

Steven Silverman (GPI#286, -30) finds himself on the list of fallers for the third straight week. The high stakes pro hasn’t been ranked this low since January 21, 2013, almost two years ago.

French poker legend Roger Hairabedian (GPI#242, -37) also falls this week. Big Roger, who had an amazing first half to the 2014 poker season cashing in over 20 events, has only cashed in one event since.

IN-N-OUT

WPT UK runner-up Ben Warrington (GPI#183) is one of nine players to return to the GPI300 this week. Congratulations to Patryk Slusarek (GPI#281), who makes his debut in the 300 at #281 following his 10th score of the season at WPT UK.

There are a few big names dropping from the GPI300 this week including former World #7 Igor Kurganov (GPI#302), who falls out outside of the GPI300 for the very first time of his poker career. Kurganov has cashed in four events in 2014.

ON THE BUBBLE

2012 World Series of Poker bracelet winner Chris Tryba finds himself on the bubble this week. Known as one of the most fun and easy-going pros on the US circuit, Tryba is pushing his way back into the Top 300, gaining over 100 spots in the rankings in the past few months. Tryba was last a member of the 300 in December of 2012.
