Congratulations go out to reigning WPT Player of the Year Anthony Zinno (GPI#1, +7) who becomes the 10th player in history to takeover the top spot on the GPI World Poker Rankings.

Zinno certainly didn’t rest on his laurels once he wrapped up GPI WPT PoY honors, heading to Europe to play the EPT Grand Final Festival and WPT Amsterdam. Although he returned home with only one result, bigger things were waiting for him at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

His WSOP journey would kick off with a pair of final table performances at the beginning of June. He would then end the month with two other final table finishes, including a 7th place finish in the $111,111 One Drop High Roller tournament. But Zinno wasn’t done yet! Just a few days after his One Drop result, Zinno would win his first ever WSOP gold bracelet in the $25,000 Pot Limit Omaha High Roller event, defeating Pakinai Lisawad (GPI#1163) heads-up.

Recent successes also see Zinno takeover the 2015 GPI Player of the Year race. With WPT PoY honors already wrapped up, the lead in both GPI races as well as a prime position in the GPI WSOP Player of the Year race, Zinno better be making extra room in his trophy case as the “The Year of the Zinno” continues.

Despite enjoying some success this summer in Las Vegas, Dan Smith (GPI#2, -1) was unable to keep his status atop the rankings as past successes returned to haunt the former World #1. One week after his Aria Super High Roller victory entered a third aging period, Smith’s scores from the 2014 WSOP Main Event, where he finished in 20th position, did the same, dropping him score to the lowest its been since the first week of May.

It is important to note that Zinno’s 3,896.39 points total is the lowest total any player has had to lead the World Rankings at any time this season … and with many players within a few hundred points of the lead, the race for #1 is certainly as wide open as its been in months.
