GPI300: Bryn Kenney’s push, three stars return to Top 10

Schemion leads, Kenney trails and three stars return to the Top 10…

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Ole Schemion GPIOle Schemion (GPI#1, =) retains the #1 spot on the GPI World Poker Rankings for a fifth straight week, however, he does drop points for a second week in a row. Schemion cashed in a single event at the PCA in the Bahamas.

A week after Pratyush Buddiga (GPI#3, -1) moved to a career-best #2 in the World, it’s Bryn Kenney‘s (GPI#2 CB, +3) turn to move to #2 in the World for the very first time. Kenney’s remarkable play in the past of late has allowed him to gain almost 900 points in standings in the past three months.

Three stars find their way back into the Top 10 this week as former World #1 Jason Mercier (GPI#5, +6), Scott Seiver (GPI#7, +18) and 2010 WSOP Main Event winner Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#9, +7) all make a return to the top. All three players appear in the Top 10 for the very first time in 2015.

A trio of star players are also on their way out as WSOP Big One for One Drop rivals  Daniel Negreanu (GPI#11, -3) and Daniel Colman (GPI#12, -3) and as well as and Olivier Busquet (GPI#13, -3), who battled Colman heads-up in the Super High Roller event at EPT Barcelona in August, all drop three spots this week.

EPT Vienna Champion Oleksii Khoroshenin (GPI#119 CB, +137) moves to a career-best #119 this week following a third place finish in the High Roller event at the 2015 PCA. Last week, Khoroshenin was named to Team Ukraine for the upcoming Global Poker Masters coming to Malta in March.

Moving up over 1,200 spots in the past six months, Chance Kornuth (GPI#108, +126) just continues to roll. Professional and personal best friends David Vamplew (GPI#62, +56) and Dominik Nitsche (GPI#56, +43) are two other notables to earn a boost in the rankings this week.

DOWN THE LADDER

A 73rd place finish in the Main Event at the 2015 PCA was not enough to prevent Liv Boeree (GPI#213, -37) from sliding in the standings this week. Boeree’s runner-up finish at UKIPT Edinburgh last year entered a third aging period this week.

Similarly, a Top 10 score at the Helsinki Freezeout didn’t stop Kimmo Kurko (GPI#156, -21) from dropping in the ranks. Kurko earned a pair of Top 3 finishes at last year’s Freezeout and those scores continued to lose value this week.

IN-N-OUT

Nicholas Petrangelo (GPI#78 CB) is certainly a player to keep an eye on in 2015. Petrangelo picked up over 900 points in the Bahamas. He’s already surpassed his previous season high earnings, having accumulated close to $420K in the first three weeks of the season.

A big win in the Million Dollar Heater in Biloxi, Mississippi sees David Tuthill (GPI#188) re-enter the GPI300 after dropping out at the start of 2015. Before dropping at the start of this season, Tuthill had been a member of the GPI300 since March 4, 2013.
