GPI300: Duhamel Up Again, Mad Marvin Drops

Wondering who would be ranked #1 once the WSOP would kick off? Plus, a former WSOP World Champion picks up the pace and a former World #1 takes a tumble…

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Ole Schemion (GPI#1, -) remains the man of the hour, earning the #1 rank on the GPI300 for a career-best sixth consecutive week! Schemion’s top spot will be contested however. The young German isn’t expected to make his highly-anticipated WSOP debut until later in the Series.

The other three members of the Top 4 remain intact this week as Scott Seiver (GPI#2, -), Byron Kaverman (GPI#3, -) and Vanessa Selbst (GPI#4, -) will stay at their current rankings for another week.

One week after dropping out of the Top 10, 2010 WSOP World Champion Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#7, +4) returns this week. Duhamel moves up four spots to #7 following his final table performance in the High Roller event at the PokerStars Canada Cup in Montreal. Duhamel also made the Top 20 in the Main Event at the Playground Poker Club – those points should hit the system on time for the next rankings update.

The news isn’t so good for the Mad One, Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#11, -6), who moves out of the Top 10 for the first time in over two years – an amazing stat! The last time Rettenmaier was ranked outside the Top 10 was the week of May 21, 2012 … almost two years to the day. His last cash came in a prelim event at the LAPC back in February.

2012 WSOP World Champion Greg Merson (GPI#171, +79) is the biggest mover inside the GPI300 this week. Merson’s 15th place finish at the WSOP National Championship in Atlantic City helps him earn his highest ranking since the start of the 2013 poker season.

WSOP National Championship winner and runner-up Dominik Nitsche (GPI#40, +40) and Athanasios Polychronopoulos (GPI#67 CB, +67) each make big moves up the standings.

DOWN THE LADDER

A pair of Americans, Kyle Bowker (GPI#223, -53) and Timothy Reilly (GPI#203, -50), take the biggest hits inside the 300 this week, each moving down 50+ spots in the standings.

WPT Champions Club members Giacomo Fundaro (GPI#112, -31), Chino Rheem (GPI#207, -29) and Matt Waxman (GPI#84, -24) as well as former GPI#1 contenders David Sands (GPI#168, -47) and Joseph Cheong (GPI#80, -23) also take a hit this week.

IN-N-OUT

Back to the WSOP National Championship we go as reigning and defending WSOP 50K Players Championship winner Matthew Ashton (GPI#159) makes a huge leap back inside the GPI300 this week.

PokerStars Canada Cup High Roller champ Samuel Chartier (GPI#239) and Eric Blair (GPI#260 CB), who’s been on one heck of a run for the past few months, are two others to make their way inside the 300 this week.

Former WPT finalist Jesse Yaginuma (GPI#310) and former WPT One to Watch Amanda Musumeci (GPI#343) each drop out of the 300 this week.

ON THE BUBBLE

After two straight weeks on the bubble, Bulgarian Atanas Kavrakov (GPI#302) drops another spot to #302 in the world. Kavrakov will need to overturn the momentum soon in order not to drop any further in the race.

One week after making a return to the GPI300, the Beast, Ryan Riess (GPI#301) is on the outside once again, unable to withstand the pressure from the chase group. A successful start to this year’s WSOP would certainly help Riess find his way back amongst the top 300.
