GPI300: Mercier maintains top spot; more points to come?
Jason Mercier continues his reign at the top – and more points could be on the way …
VIEW FROM THE TOP
Make it five in a row for American superstar Jason Mercier (GPI#1, =). This is Mercier’s fourth longest streak at the top of the GPI World Poker Rankings. Mercier enjoyed streaks of 11 and 10 straight weeks at the start of 2012 and spent 17 weeks in a row at the top from May to September in 2013.
Bad news for those chasing the man who’s spent the most total weeks atop the GPI World Poker Rankings in history as Mercier’s points total could be in for a boost next week. Coming off a short break from the live tournament circuit, Mercier was quick to get back into the groove, winning the High Roller event at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open late last night in his home state of Florida.
Mercier’s points increase won’t be as drastic as the 500+ points he is about to be awarded for the victory. Those points will replace a previous score (his 128th place finish at the WPT Seminole Poker Showdown in April) + his 2nd place finish in the High Roller event at EPT Barcelona last year is about to enter a third aging period.
2015 GPI Player of the Year front-runner Anthony Zinno (GPI#2, +2) returns to #2 on the GPI World Poker Rankings this week. Zinno’s 2015 has certainly been remarkable to date with a pair of WPT titles and a first WSOP gold bracelet to his credit so far this season. The rest of the World Top 10 remains intact.
Plenty of big names are moving up the charts this week including Ryan Riess (GPI#169, +42), Jeff Gross (GPI#162, +31), Vladimir Troyanovskiy (GPI#60, +19) and Darryll Fish (GPI#217, +16), who has already earned three scores so far this month.
