GPI300: Katchalov Making Waves

All is quiet at the top of the GPI300 while a former Top 10 player is back in the mix…

GPI PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Keven Stammen (GPI#38) has passed Mike McDonald (GPI#7) at the top of the 2014 GPI Player of the Year Leaderboard. We’ll have all of the details on Stammen’s move to #1 in our GPI PoY update column Thursday.

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Daniel Negreanu GPIDaniel Negreanu (GPI#1, -) starts his seventh straight week atop the GPI300 standings. Negreanu has held the #1 spot in 17 of the past 22 weeks. The previous #1 player in the world, Ole Schemion (GPI#2, -), once again owns the #2 spot. Fellow German Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#3, -) remains at #3 … in fact, none of the Top 7 moved this week.

The only change within the Top 10 this week is a flip-flop between Shannon Shorr (GPI#8, +1) and Philipp Gruissem (GPI#9, -1). Other than that, all was quiet at the top.

Eugene Katchalov GPINo new names inside the Top 10 this week as all players are safe for another week.

Former World #2 Eugene Katchalov (GPI#21) made big strides this week, cracking the Top 25 for the first time since last June. The former GPI Top 10 mainstay is coming off his second big score of the season following his Eureka Poker Tour High Roller victory late last night.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

Calvin Anderson GPIA pair of American pros share the biggest move inside the GPI300 this week as Calvin Anderson (GPI#194) and Benjamin Zamani (GPI#211 CB) each move up 69 spots in the standings following their performances last week at WPT Rolling Thunder.

Aussie pro Daniel Neilson (GPI#149, +61) and a pair of WPT Champions Club members – Nam Le (GPI#189, +55 CB) and Jordan Cristos (GPI#88, +50 CB) – also make big moves up in this week’s standings.

DOWN THE LADDER

Anaras Alekberovas GPIAnaras Alekberovas (GPI#300, -96) takes a huge drop this week and sits right on the 300 line. Alekberovas has not scored any points since last October, combine that with current results losing value and you have yourself a recipe for disaster.

Benjamin Hamnett (GPI#184, -39), Fabrice Soulier (GPI#177, -34) and former November Niner Martin Staszko (GPI#215, -32) are amongst the other players to lose ground within the 300 this week.

IN-N-OUT

JC Tran GPIJC Tran (GPI#151) is amongst the players who make a return to the GPI300 this week. Tran won the WPT Rolling Thunder Main Event outside his Sacramento hometown  last week, adding a second World Poker Tour title to his résumé.

GPI Player of the Year contender Dominik Panka (GPI#273 CB), WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open runner-up James Calderaro (GPI#240) and Unibet Open Copenhagen Champion Frederik Jensen (GPI#256) are also in this week.

Rocco Palumbo GPISeason XI WPT Venice Champion Rocco Palumbo (GPI#341) is amongst the players leaving the 300 this week. Palumbo, who also owns a WSOP bracelet, will look to get back inside the GPI300 as soon as possible.

A pair of German pros, Maxi Lehmanski (GPI#307) and Nikolaus Teichert (GPI#309) join Palumbo on the outside, looking in this week.
