Jason Mercier (GPI#1, =) used his own brand of “white magic” this week, extending his lead atop the GPI World Poker Rankings while sitting beachside in Aruba. Mercier is spending his 9th straight week at the top, the 62nd of his career.

While Mercier only gained a few points, his widened his lead thanks for World #2 Byron Kaverman (GPI #2, =) dropping over 175 points this week. The majority of Kaverman’s points were lost as his 15th place finish at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star last March entered a second aging period.

The only move inside the Top 10 sees Stephen Chidwick (GPI#7, +1) and Davidi Kitai (GPI#8, -1) pull a switcheroo as the UK pro jumps ahead of the Belgian star.

Congratulations go out to Griffin Paul (GPI#273 CB), Jason Les (GPI#288 CB) and Antonin Duda (GPI#299 CB), who all enter the GPI300 for the very first times of their poker careers.

And finally, a tip of the cap to Dan Shak (GPI#305), who drops out of the GPI300 for the very first time … EVER … this week. Shak was ranked #220 in the World when the very first GPI World Poker Rankings were released in June 2011 – he spent over four years ranked in the elite group.
