GPI300: Seiver, Mercier switch spots near the top, Schemion slips to #9

A pair of American superstars swap places near the top while the members of the Top 10 remain the same this week …

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Dan Smith GPI90 straight days at the top of the GPI World Poker Rankings for Dan Smith (GPI#1, =), who has held the #1 spot since late August. Smith is gearing up for the end of the year, which will see him chase the GPI Player of the Year race as well – he is currently ranked in 4th position in the PoY race.

Two big names switch spots as Scott Seiver (GPI#2, +1) and Jason Mercier (GPI#3, -1) create a little action near the top of the standings. Seiver stands in second position – his career best – for the fifth time of his career; he spent four consecutive weeks ranked #2 in May.

Former World #1 Daniel Negreanu (GPI#7, +1) and 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Martin Jacobson (GPI#8, +1) move up a spot in the Top 10 while 2013 GPI Player of the Year Ole Schemion (GPI#9, -2), who also held the #1 spot on the GPI for a large part of 2014, drops to #9 this week, his lowest ranking since September 4, 2013, when he held the 10th overall rank.

For the first time in months, there are no new members to the Top 10 this week – that’s good news for our players currently at the top!

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

A 15th place finish at the WPT bestbet Jacksonville Bounty Scramble sees Jacob Bazeley (GPI#207, +85) make the biggest move up inside the GPI300 this week. The former World #64 has cashed in nine events this season, including a 4th place finish at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown last April.

Justin Zaki (GPI#90, +21), who also cashed at the Hard Rock, re-entered the Top 100 for the first time in five months.

DOWN THE LADDER

Former World #2 Philipp Gruissem (GPI#152, -52) takes one of the biggest drops this week. Gruissem, who has spent half of 2014 ranked inside the Top 10, falls outside of the Top 100 for the first time since October of 2011.

Steven Silverman (GPI#256, -42) takes a significant fall for the second straight week. With only three cashes so far in 2014, a further fall in the standings can be expected for the American pro. Silverman has not been ranked outside the GPI300 since the end of 2012.
