GPI300: Selbst, Negreanu, Hellmuth All Trending

Vanessa Selbst’s bracelet victory brings her one step closer to the top and two big names make bold moves inside this week’s 300…

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Ole Schemion (GPI#1, -) begins his seventh straight week at the top of the GPI300 standings. Schemion, who has yet to arrive in Las Vegas, lost a few more points this week, however, still holds a 250+ point lead on his closest competition.

That closest competitor is now Vanessa Selbst (GPI#2 CB, +2), who’s bracelet victory in the 25K NLH Mixed Event at the start of the WSOP helps her return to a career-best World #2. Selbst jumps ahead of Scott Seiver (GPI#3, -1) and Byron Kaverman (GPI#4, -1), who both drop a spot in the rankings.

For the second straight week, Jason Mercier (GPI#7, +2) makes a move up inside the Top 10. After moving one spot to #9 last week, Mercier jumps another two spots this week, returning to #7 in the World.

Daniel Negreanu (GPI#10, +3) makes a return to the GPI Top 10 for the first time since he dropped from the #1 spot in April. Kid Poker has yet to cash at the World Series of Poker. He will need to get on the board quickly in order to preserve his Top 10 ranking. Negreanu replaces fellow Canadian Mike McDonald (GPI#11, -1), who drops out of the Top 10 this week.

“The Takeover” Nick Schulman (GPI#67, +108) is this week’s biggest mover inside the Top 10. No one should be surprised to see Schulman move up this time of year. He loves playing at the WSOP and is skilled in all game types.

Speaking of WSOP standouts, David “Bakes” Baker (GPI#187, +95), who racked up amazing performances at last year’s Series, also moves up this week. Baker is joined by November Niner and multiple WPT Champion JC Tran (GPI#94 CB, +83), Justin Bonomo (GPI#62, +61), Timothy Reilly (GPI#145, +58) and Joseph Cheong (GPI#33, +47) to name a few.

DOWN THE LADDER

Not the best of weeks for Team U.S.A. as nine of the 10 biggest drops this week come from America. Chino Rheem (GPI#260, -53), who takes a significant hit for the second straight week, and Chris Dombrowski (GPI#293, -49) are now dangerously close from falling out of the 300 altogether.

ISPT Wembley Champion Jakub Michalak (GPI#277, -65), Kevin MacPhee (GPI#168, -47) and Chris Klodnicki (GPI#80, -23) – who drops out of the Top 100 – also drop this week.

IN-N-OUT

The Brat is back! Phil Hellmuth (GPI#226) returns to the GPI300 for the first time since April. Hellmuth’s moved up thanks for a runner-up finish in the $1,500 Seven Card Razz event just a few short days ago. Hellmuth would lose to Ted Forrest (GPI#3475) heads-up.

Other than Hellmuth, 15 other players found their way inside the Top 300 this week. Richard Lyndaker (GPI#198 CB), Matt Giannetti (GPI#247), Kevin Iacofano (GPI#253) and George Danzer (GPI#254) are just a few of those players.

Jacob Balsiger (GPI#304), Jake Cody (GPI#336), Sam Trickett (GPI#343) and Greg Mueller (GPI#382) are four of the not-so-sweet 16 who leave the 300 this week – although all are expected to continue playing the WSOP and could make a return with a deep run.

ON THE BUBBLE

Last week, the Beast, Ryan Riess (GPI#351) was on the bubble. That bubble burst this week as he drops 50 spots to #351. The reigning and defending WSOP World Champion arrived in Vegas a few days ago … time to go to work, sir!

Another November Niner finds himself on the bubble this week as 2010 WSOP Main Event finalist John Racener (GPI#301) is the last player out this week. Racener, who like Riess is already working at the WSOP, will need to cash in an event shortly in order to not follow in Riess’ footsteps.
