GPInterview: Chris Tryba | Booooooom It!

Chris Tryba GPI2Boooooom it!

It’s WSOP bracelet winner Chris Tryba’s (GPI#404) catch phrase, but it’s also words he lives by. Never afraid to share his thoughts, the Colorado man – who won the Mixed Hold’em event at last year’s WSOP – is never afraid to ruffle a few feathers now and then, but, he’s such a nice and genuine guy that you can’t help but smile when he needles you – even when he laughs at you when the Boston Bruins come back to defeated your beloved Toronto Maple Leafs 🙂

Tryba has a great spirit and is also ready to engage in conversation but, as we’ll learn later in this interview, it’s all business when it comes to life on the felt – when it comes to tournament poker, there simply is no kidding around.

Here is my conversation with Chris:

Chris, congratulations on your most recent cash in the Eight-Game Mix event … a nice score yet you seemed disappointed by your 10th place finish?

I was rather bummed. I’m getting close and not converting sucks balls. Plus it would have been nice to get my fourth World Series of Poker Final Table in four years out of the way early.

You have lost a significant amount of weight since I saw you last at the LAPC in February. What caused the change and how have you been doing?

I figured if a juice fast and losing 50lbs was good enough for a WSOP bracelet last year, I would be a fool not to do the same thing this year!

We often hear poker players talk about eating healthy and living a balanced lifestyle helping their game, do you agree that how you look and feel translates to the poker table?

100%. Although I don’t really care how I look, how I feel 100% translates into better results for me..

Chris Tryba GPIWe’re almost a year removed from your first bracelet win during last year’s WSOP, did walking back into the Rio last week bring back memories of the big win?

Nah…not really. But I do get giddy every year walking into the Rio. The World Series of Poker is just such an awesome experience.

You have such a positive image, I’ve never seen you in a bad mood, you always seem to have time for everyone, how do you manage to stay positive even after a tough result or when things aren’t necessarily going your way?

While I’m playing, I take poker very seriously – in fact, probably too seriously. I’m not there to make friends, it’s a war, literally. I’m there to take all your chips or all your cash. Away from the tables, I’m just not that serious of a guy, far from it, actually … I’m rather goofy!

Finally, Fantasy Poker Managers want to know, is Chris Tryba a great pick for the rest of the events at the WSOP?

F*** Ya!!
